Chapter 10

What do you choose?
Choose later
You re-read the three skills' descriptions a few more times before giving up. You just don't have enough information to make such a long-term decision. "I'll choose later." You decide. "After all, there is no time limit, so not picking a new skill right away should be fine."
You select the "Choose later" option and the skill choice window closes. "Now what should I do next?" You begin to think about it. Almost immediately your thoughts are interrupted by a loud explosion somewhere in the distance, but definitely withing the borders of the town.
"What's going on?" You wonder as you take a peek outside through the nearest window. Seeing nothing and no one you decide to take a chance and leave the relative safety of the library. As soon as you are out on the street you notice a column of black smoke rising into the sky. "That's... somewhere in the market area. Probably the Blacksmith, or the Armorer, or one of the other shops frequented by 'heroes'. Things must be going very poorly for the defenders if the shops are getting destroyed by the attackers."
Your guess is confirmed just moments later, when you hear a series of explosions elsewhere in town. They are not as loud as the first one, but there are at least a dozen of them. More smoke starts rising in the sky from a different part of town. "That seems to be in the vicinity of the town hall... maybe even the town hall itself..." The town hall is a rather important source of quests for the 'heroes'. Close to it are the biggest inn in town and the town barracks where the town guards are trained. Underground, below the barracks, is the town prison.
"Things are definitely not going well... I should decide on a course of action before the fighting reaches this part of town..." You start thinking about the possibilities.
First is staying in the library until things calm down – but there's no telling how long that will take, plus you know from past experience that the apparent safety of the library is false. Complicating things further is the guy you killed earlier. Sooner or later he is bound to come looking for his dead body, and he won't be happy. He has no way to know you are the one that killed him, but he likely won't care about that.
Second is exploring and learning more about the situation in town. There are two ways you can do that: By foot or by flying. By foot will be slower but somewhat safer as it should be quite easy to find cover. Flight will be faster and will allow you to look over a large part of town but you will be an easy target if you get spotted, and you can fly for only a few minutes.
Last, but not least, is the option to leave town. Now that you can fly for more than a few seconds you can just fly over the town wall and leave. There are a few locations of interest not too far from town, including a new explorable area added with the latest expansion. Supposedly there are new dungeons there, meaning new opportunities...
Stay or go? And if the latter: Go by foot or by flying?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
