Go by foot and check out the market area

You consider your options. Leaving town is tempting, but you don't know enough about the world beyond the walls. Sure, you've read about it in books and you've heard a bit form the 'heroes', but nearly all of it is about distant locations. You know far too little about the surrounding area and its dangers.

Staying in the library and hoping the fighting will not reach you is something you have tried in the past – it didn't work back then and you see no reason to expect you'll have better luck this time.

Exploring the town seems like the most dangerous option, but if you are careful you should be able to avoid trouble. And who knows – maybe you'll get a chance to kill another 'hero' and gain a few more levels...

Next is the question which way to go. You decide to head for the market area – by the time you reach it most of the fighting should be over, and if you are lucky you might find something of value in the ruins of whichever shops got destroyed.

Flying would be faster, but going by foot would be relatively safer. "By foot it is." You decide as you start walking towards the market area. Using the main streets and roads seems like a bad idea – that is where you are most likely to meet other people. Instead you travel using the back alleys between the town's buildings. They are narrow, dirty, and smelly, but that is precisely why most avoid them. And all the crap that's been dumped in the back alleys will provide cover, in case you need it.

At first nothing of interest happens. You keep hearing explosions in the distance and quite a few times sounds of battle reach you, but none are too close to worry you. But eventually your luck runs out. As you walk along a relatively clean alley you hear the sounds of yet another battle, and the more you walk the closer the sounds get. You realize that the fighting is taking place right head of you.

You slow down and try to move as quietly as possible, so as to not alert the combatants to your presence. When you reach the end of the alley you carefully take a look at the street and the battle taking place there.

To the left you see two fallen elves. One is a young-looking girl that would be 18 or at most 19 if she were human, but with elves you can only guess her actual age. The other person is an elven woman. Both the girl and the woman are wearing robes: The girl light blue ones, the woman dark green ones.

To the right you see two fallen 'heroes' – a man wearing leather armor, with a two-handed axe on the ground not far from him, and a young man wearing dark blue robes, likely a mage or a cleric.

You can't tell if the four fallen people are dead, or just ****.

Right in front of you two people are fighting To the right is an armored man wielding a longsword and a steel buckler. He has no helmet, allowing you to see the side of his bearded face. Against him is an elven woman wearing leather armor and wielding a long spear.

As you watch it becomes clear that the elven woman is losing. If she does not receive help sometime soon she is going to be defeated. You begin to wonder if you should get involved, or if you should retreat and head a different way before you get spotted...
