Walk through the town.

You guide your steed Aegis through the wet cobbled streets of the small town. The houses look run down at first glance, but upon further inspection the townsfolk have done a fair amount of repairs and upkeep. Wooden beams support the pale stone walls, and the roofs are thatched tightly to keep out the elements. You catch an orange glow in the corner of your eye, and turn to see a huddled older woman clutching a lantern.

“Excuse me, traveler! Over here if'n it please you!” She shouts whilst waving her arm about.

She looks concerned, and from what you can see into her house it looks rather warm and inviting, so you trot over to her.

“Is everything alright ma'am?” You ask her from atop your horse.

“Not rightly Milady. Would you please come in out of the rain?”

“You need to call me Milady, and yes I will come in.”

“Oh thank you kindly! You can tie up your horse over there.”

You get Aegis out of the rain, and then hurry back to the woman to get out of it yourself. Her home is much smaller on the inside than it seemed on the outside. It consists of only one room, with each corner dedicated to one aspect. Two single beds take up the most space against the far wall, with a large closet looming next to them. The fireplace is opposite the bed's, with an assortment of baskets and cooking tools strewn about it. The other half of the house has a small table and chairs, and a tub for washing and cleaning.

“Please have a seat.” The woman pulls out a chair for you. “My name's Ethel.”

“Sister Sabine, of the Burning Rose.”

“Ooh! I just knew you was someone important, what with that fine horse and weapon you have.”

You smile humbly and the ragged woman. “What was so urgent that you called me over?”

“Well, you see my daughter has gone missin'. And she ain't the only girl from 'round these parts to disappear, there's two others all in the past month!”

“Disappear? What happened? Has the town done anything about it?”

“Oh the watch ain't done nuthin'! They think the girls just run off 'cause there ain't nothing in this town worth stayin' for. But I tell you, my girl wouldn't leave me, not without sayin' so first!”

“Do you know where she may have gone?”

While Ethel answer's your question, she stirs a pot by the fire and gathers some of it's contents into a bowl. “Well, there's been tell of something at a cave down by the river. And me girl, Leah, she was at the river when she went missin'.” The woman places the bowl in front of you. It's filled with a bubbling soup with floating chunks of potato. “Please, you look hungry.”

“You think someone took her?” You grab the wooden spoon and gather a piece of potato and broth. The taste is rather bland, but the warmth it brings is comfort enough.

“Or something. I hear noises at night, noises that no creature of this world should make.”

Demons, You think to yourself. “I promise, I will find your daughter Leah.”

“Oh, thank you. Please, rest here for the night while the storm passes. And yer welcome to anything else!”

Having a shelter from the rain is a blessing, so helping this woman seems the least you can do, and saving innocents from demons is why you joined the Burning Rose. You finish your soup, and then rest in one of the beds. The sheets are rough wool that scratches at your skin, but you are so tired that you soon fall asleep regardless.
