A text message

You flipped your phone over, half-expecting to see a message from the Affection Multiplier, but it was a message from Amy reading "I can't sleep".

Well that got rid of your conjecture which suggested that maybe Amy was asleep and dreaming, and that's why her scores were moving.

You responded with "Neither can I", because that actually was the truth. You couldn't sleep, at least not very easily. Not because of overthinking or the knowledge that she was just down the hall, but because your need for sleep had halved.

"My parents constantly keep this house too cold at night, and most of my blankets are in the washer" was her response.

"Couldn't you just put on another pair of pajamas?" you asked, trying to help.

No reply came after that, which led you to believe that she was just taking your advice. You turned back to your computer, telling yourself that you'd sleep as soon as it got past 2 AM, which was still about an hour and a half away.

You were about to put your headphones on, but then the door opened. In walked (well, stumbled might be a better word, it was after midnight) Amy, somewhat tentatively.

"What are you doing here?" you whispered rather loudly.

"I told you I was cold", she said. "This room is generally pretty warm. What are you doing on your computer?"

"Just finishing up some college work", you said, closing the lid.

Wordlessly, she slid into the bed beside you, and the two of you just sat there, laying next to each other for a while.

Breaking the silence, Amy asked, "Can we cuddle?"

You didn't verbally respond, and you brought your arms around her. She curled up into you and rested her head on your chest. The two of you fell asleep like that, without a care in the world.
