Bound for destiny

Captain Ben greets you as you head out on the deck. “Ahh, good morning, Nicholas. Things are going well for you, I take it? I should probably remind you that my cabin is next to yours. And they’re not soundproof.”

You chuckle. “Yeah…sorry, Alex wanted to celebrate freedom, and bonding with me.”

Ben grins. “Is that what it’s called these days? Well, I don’t blame you. Now then, the three former prisoners are resting. I figured they could use it.”

You nod. “Did they have anything interesting to share?”

Ben sighs, shaking his head. “Nothing we didn’t already know. I imagine these rebels will be our best source for information, assuming they don’t attack us. They did apologize, by the way. For attacking.”

You shake your head. “There was no need to apologize. I understand why they did it. I just hope we can avoid that in the future.”

Ferra speaks up. “Had I known, I would not have been so vigorous in my attacks.”

Ben puts a hand on each of your shoulders. “You both made the best decisions you could. Don’t let this haunt you.”

You nod, and he smiles. “Now then, what’s the plan once we arrive? Assuming they don’t attack us on sight. We should be there in a day or two, and I’d like to know what to say when we arrive.”

You chuckle. “My plan is to help them, if I can. I can hardly go back home saying, ‘yup, it’s terrible there, so I left’, you know?”

Ben frowns. “Not to be rude, but out here, you’re not the son of the god emperor, you’re just a guy who grew up rich.”

You smile. “So was my father. And within a year of arriving in the old world, he defeated the demon lord. He told me I was meant to make this journey, and now I know why. It’s the same journey he made at my age.”

Slowly, Ben nods. “I suppose you have a point. And we did sign up for an adventure, after all.”

You chuckle. “I’ll try to keep my head on straight. I’m not exactly a legendary hero.”

Ben nods. “Not yet. For that, you need to achieve some legendary feats. And you’ll need plenty of help along the way.”

He gives you and Ferra a grin.
