Chapter 47 by Jizzrar Jizzrar

So...how was the trip?

Pretty uneventful

The Rune Blade walked to the estate he rode by on the way to the secluded in. Though, he decided to take some alternative routes so he could take in more of St. Marmelise and see what the city had to offer. It was a beautiful place to be sure, one of the nicer pious cities Marius has been to. He didn't add in the stares he got from the populace, though, he was used to that. He could at least appreciate the beasts and Dwarves who didn't care too much, it was mostly the paranoid looks of the odd Daeva here and there and the disdain from some of his fellow Humans. Though, even then there were a few that didn't care too much. He certainly did appreciate the women looking like they were taking to the tenets of Sylvese, wearing more revealing wear. Marius may have been dutiful and professional, but he was still a red-blooded male.

Some things he saw that were worthy of note were a few checkpoints that seemed to have higher security than others, a couple interesting looking shops including alchemists, what appeared to be an Unshackled trader from the Dune Sea of the Sultanate having a mini-bazaar, and what appeared to be some sort of...carnival? Maybe? He just saw a big tent that people walked in and out of, and he thought he saw some mangy Dwarves acting like doorman. Dwarves tend to pride themselves on grooming, and usually the no-good exiles from their mountains looked that shabby. He may have to investigate that at some point. As one should know, wherever Dust settles, something foul is afoot.

Ignoring that, Marius continued on his way towards the mansion of this High Lord Matthias Lorenz, the first benefactor of this new order of divine law enforcers that weren't attached to the Inquisitorial orders. Though he was asked by the Gods themselves to watch over this newly minted paladin, it goes without saying that Marius still had many suspicions of his own about this whole ordeal. Just something about all of this refused to stop pestering him about it.

Upon reaching the manor, he gave a knock of the door's frame and waited for a response, most likely from a servant. He didn't mind not having anyone outside waiting for him, he preferred that way honestly. The heads-up message his Mistress had given her should still be freshly delivered, possibly received the day before. If the predictions were right, they should still not be expecting his presence any time soon. This was definitely more to his advantage, much like a surprise inspection that was rumored...less chance of anything important being covered up due to them panicking and quickly attempting to hide anything or come up with stories, knocking them off balance. If he can keep the advantage that the element of surprise nets him, he should be able to keep outmaneuvering this High Lord and his little paladin.

What lies inside?
