One last Mission

I sat there looking down whilst she tried to say the right things to make it sound better but it was just shallow words that actually made it sound worse, “Please Damien say something” I stared at the board and reaching for my gun said, “Just one target to go!” Jacob stared at the board before nodding said, “Yes Charles, he is going to be the most protected!” I grabbed my rifle before saying, “One last mission! One last one!” Evie shook her head before trying to reason with me, “Damien please, don’t be stupid...you need a plan!” and looking at her I said, “What just as stupid as falling in love with a married woman who still blindly loves her husband??” she looked down before crying said, “Please don’t say that!” I loaded the gun before saying, “I have no love or someone to care for, so...Fuck to coming back alive!” Jacob grabbed his gun before limping said, “I’m coming with you!” and shaking my head I said, “Don’t bother. Someone needs to be around when the ass dumps her again!” he nodded before hugging me said, “Stay safe...well alive!” I shrugged before simply saying, “Who cares if I do?” and jumping off the train walked to the mansion.

I saw the two patrolling guards and assassinating them used two throwing knives took out the next two guards who patrolled the house. As I crept into the grounds I crept up to the next corner and stabbing the next guard waited for the other one to come and investigate this is when I killed the next one and practically caring I walked in through the front door to see a large group waiting for me, “Traitor!” they snapped and pulling out my two revolvers fired off the twelve rounds into their chests and pulling out my rifle started to fire each round into the others chests. However, were still too many to count! I used my throwing knives to take more but drawing my knive ducked the first before stabbing him repeatedly into his chest, I got pushed back the next guard who was a brute but grabbing one of the throwings which was imbedded in their chest launched it at his face blinding him before using my knife to slit his throat. However no matter what happened more and more flooded out like rats in a cave, if I killed one three would replace them!” eventually I was met by a gun shot to my shoulder and falling over I was dragged over to another room.

It was dark, incredibly dark and it wasn’t until the lamps were lit that it was clear Charles was here. He was not the most toughest of men but cruel if I remember reading correctly he was young and impatient but worse of all...he had a poorly maintained beard with flecks of food still in it. He punched me in the face repeatedly as he snapped, “Why Damien! We were friends! Brothers and sisters in arms; you could’ve had anything you chose even Amelia loved you and you did this!” I sat there before remaining silent was punched again, “Let’s just say you couldn’t offer the thing I wanted!” and hitting me again this time with his brass knuckles snapped, “Yes Mrs Frye!” I shook my head before snapping, “Mrs Green!” he hit me again before snapping, “Where is she?” I shrugged before saying, “Fucks knows! If she is like Henry probably ran away!” he punched me again but this time repeatedly in my ribs, “Where?” I laughed before groaning as I spat, “You are an idiot...if I cared about surviving I wouldn’t have used the front door! I don’t care what happens to me!” and hitting me again he yelled “with your last breath you will tell me where they are!” as he slammed his knife into my legs I cried whilst he left the room allowing me to slide a knife from my sleeve down and cutting the rope sat their coughing as the two guards watched me, I skimmed the room to see my weapons were in the corner and nodding I looked down as Charles returned, “You know what this is??” I looked up before hearing him say, “This device is used to removing you eyes as painful as possible, it’s a bit like a corkscrew!” I nodded as I walked up clutching the knife in one movement brought my knife into his chest reapeatedly before pulling his gun out shot the other two guards and one bullet into Charles’ head before pushing him down clutched my shoulder as I grabbed my gauntlet blade, attaching it to my non-injured arm side, I grabbed my rifle and handgun before picking up my knife looked around to see wooden floor, “Leave no trace!” I wheezed so knocking all his documents off the table to the floor before throwing a lamp to the floor starting the fire. I walked up the stairs favouring my arm as guards rushed in distracted by the commotion, a few shots at the group cleared the path and barging the door, I fell out to the cold floor, I removed the knife and throwing it inside the burning building pulled myself up before escaping to the nearest carriage and climbing on it snapped the reigns signalling for the horses to ride.

When I got to the station I struggled up the stairs, the pieces of clothing I used to apply pressure to the wounds didn’t work as well as I anticipated but seeing the train coughed as Jacob who was looking out yelled for Evie to come as he rushed off the train and limped hurriedly to me, “Damien! Damien! Can you hear me?” I nodded before spitting out more blood, “It’s been done!” Jacob helped me up the stairs and studying the wounds he snapped, “Evie a knife, we need to get the bullet out!” I grabbed my own knife and digging into my own shoulder gritted my teeth trying to find it, “There it is!” Jacob commented and handing him the knife he slid it in before retrieving the bullet and looking at me Evie cried, “Why?” I looked down before commenting, “To be honest I didn’t think I would come back alive. So this is just some cruel punishment for us all!” Jacob studying the wounds said, “They don’t look as bad as I once thought! Doesn’t matter anyway all we can do is here is stitch them up!” I nodded before pulling my trouser leg up said, “All targets dead, you are safe!” Evie wasn’t interested in that instead she sat next to me weeping as she cried, “You should have gone with someone. You could have died!” Jacob rolling his eyes said, “Evie that’s the point...he didn’t expect to come back!” I looked down at Jacob before joking, “I should have taken Henry...he could have been my shield from the bullets, that is the only thing he is useful for!” Jacob laughed before seeing Henry glare at me as he spoke, “To think she liked you!” causing me to say, “To think she likes you. Anyone can get her flowers...Hell I did, when she met you she was young and you were the only man that cared for her who wasn’t family. She is older now and in her age grows maturity; the ability to make better decisions!” “She was lonely when she met you, you were just her toy!” and laughing I said, “Maybe so, but at least I showed her my loyalty...I killed all my Templar allies for her, you may claim that you would do anything for her...but would you? I doubt it! Don’t forget that you left her, didn’t even have the guts to tell her so you wrote her a letter! How pathetic!” Henry drew his blade and holding my gun up he immediately stopped causing Evie to cry, “Stop it! Both of you! You aren’t making it any easier for me. I love you Damien but you don’t belong in this period and look I am double you age” “Blah blah blah! Yeah I know, but I still don’t care one bit!” she looked at Henry before saying, “He’s right I am older now and more mature but I am still your wife and I still feel something for you! Now both of you stop!” I lowered my gun before nodding said, “Anything for you Evie!” she smiled before sitting back down said, “Now let’s sort this out peacefully!”
