Chapter 8 by hambo hambo

Does Jorella conceal who she is and why she's here?

No, she's a gabby one

Jorella pours her heart out to the con man, telling him everything about her hopes, her dreams, and her modest background.

Jacques for his part offers only the occasional 'uh-huh,' 'mm-hmm,' and 'you don't say' as he continues to order more food and wine, eating and drinking away as the merchant's tab reaches astronomical proportions.

By the third bottle of wine, Jorella has revealed every secret and intimate detail about her life to this stranger (even the embarrassing tale of how she lost her teeth and now wears gold dentures), and is quite sloshed to boot.

"S' tell me a *burp* bout yerssef..." the redhead slurs before clumsily resting her head on her hands.

"There's not much to say," Jacques says as he finishes off another bottle and waves to the barmaid for more. He adds a little flourish to his gesture this time, a signal that he's moving to the next part of his scheme. "I am a traveler seeking out beautiful new and exotic sights, sounds..." he take's Jorella's hand and stares at her. "...and people."

Jorella's eyes widen and her mouth hangs open, showing off the fortune in her mouth. "Y...yemean me...?!" She slurs, her face turning as red as her hair.

"HERE IS YOUR WINE, SIR," the blonde barmaid says, doing a terrible job of trying to act casual, before 'accidentally' knocking the open bottle of plain water into Jorella's lap (on her second attempt). "OH. NO. HOW CLUMSY, OF ME."

Jorella mewls and spits, outraged that this perfect moment has been ruined. "WATCH IT YOU STUPID COW!" It takes her an extra second to realize her fancy clothes are now wet and stained with wine (water, actually, they don't want to ruin their payday). "My outfit! It's ruined!" Gasps Jorella, too drunk to see this obvious scam.

"I'm sorry miss, it was an accident," lies the barmaid as she runs a rag over Jorella. "We can probably still save it if we act quickly, and the inn will clean it for free."

The barmaid starts unbuttoning Jorella's blouse, part of an over-priced set she got in the capital using that wonderful easy credit. Rumor was it had once belonged to Queen Belinda herself, although how the Queen's own clothing could have gotten to a merchant's stall is a story for another time...

Does Jorella buy it?
