Chapter 4 by meriones meriones

Set the Scene

No! Set the setting.

I would like to move towards a more sex-positive world and a world where all genders, races, sexual orientations, relationship orientations, and socioeconomic status didn't reverberate harmfully. However, I want to write stories in worlds that are twisted, misogynistic, sex-shamed, and in many ways regressive. I like dark stories. Don't take them too seriously.

I havee not done a lot of Solo role-playing. But, I am a lifelong DM, have written mods, and have run a lot of games and homebrewed a lot of content. So, I'm just going to fall back on prepping as a DM, before I run this as a player.

To do that, I want to explore the themes to play with, take a peak at some traps, items, and monsters that it might be fun to include, and do a little bit of world-building and plotting.

Core setting is a mix of dystopian futurism. I'm mostly shy away from many of the elements in Black Tokyo. I mean, with chapter titles like "Lolicon, ****, and ****," I just generally think it better to treat it as a cafeteria and take what I want rather than stick to core. I have run more world-of-darkness and Call of Cthulhu than any other settings, and I typically aim to write in a style fitting for gothic horror, cosmic horror and erotica. So, my story is likely to be more of a slow build. I plan to draw more upon the demons and spirits than the mecha-enhanced-flying-witches.

I want to deal with ghosts and fairies and monsters out of fantasy. I'm down for some spirits, ghosts, and kami, but I hesitate at special forces agents and gunslingers. I want to tell a story that's not future tech, even lean into fantasy.

I want to deal with mind-control, chastity, magic, corruption, teamwork, and leave open a number of bad ends. To that end, I'm making the setting a Catholic Boarding School that sits near a gate to the other side that sometimes opens. Members of the senior class (or teachers) can be the PCs.

Rather than spoil all the backend, I've broken it up, so you can use this page as a springboard to look at some of the Items and Monsters, or, you can go beyond the house rules to find out a little information about the plot and metagame information if you would like to DM yourself and join in the fun (of course, you're free to pick up any character grab your own setting do your own thing. I'm just trying to leave behind a path that is easy to follow).

So. my setting will be an boarding school nestled in the forests and mountains of Vermont or New Hampshire. Almost all people will be ignorant of the commons and goings of spirits beasts and monsters, but there will be some people or organizations who work with or oppose the forces that lie in the other world. The students (players) will deal with the consequences of a gate to that world opening and things coming to the other side.

For further information on background, dive deeper in the links, but, why do that when you can just start playing?
