Mia’s 3rd letter

Mia’s third letter is one she wrote when we were away from each other by three whole months. At this time, I was slowly starting to get used to not having her around. Not that I wanted to. People just have a habit of adapting. Even to things we don’t like.

Darx. You won’t believe what happened on my last adventure. We got ambushed!

We accepted a quest to help clear a road of monsters so traders could travel safely again. Except there were no monsters. It was bandits! Like the ones that attacked the village a while back, only there were more.

They got the element of surprise and a few of my friends got wounded before we could even draw our weapons.

Luckily, we managed to turn the tide and defeat them. But there was a moment where one of the bandits had tripped me. I was lying on the ground. I had lost my sword. I was completely defenseless and one of the bandits was about to end me. I thought I was going to die. I thought I was never going to see you again. I have never been so afraid before.

I mean, I knew adventuring is dangerous. We are killing monsters and villains and I’m sure they don’t want to be killed. But I never thought to come face to face with **** so early. Or without having had a real adventure with you. To never know your class, or your rank. To have spent these last two months without having seen you. It would have been too cruel. I’m crying just thinking about it.

But then one of my guild mates, a knight named Roland, jumped in front of my would-be murderer and blocked his attack. I sprung to action, took my sword and then I cut the bandit down. I am so lucky for Roland to have been there when he was. If not, then you would have stopped receiving letters and you might never have known why.

I will make certain to be extra careful now, Darx. You make sure to stay safe too, alright?

Reading that my lover came close to **** is not easy. Even after having read it so many times, that part still sends shivers down my spine. But her writing this letter to me, means that she is alive and well. I should make sure to thank this Roland when I meet him. If it wasn’t for him, I would be heartbroken.
