Chapter 10 by olfpeare olfpeare

What will the next day bring?

Meeting new people

Aubrey and you get up early and she drives you to the local newspaper where you are going to work; starting Monday. However, Aubrey said that you get an introduction the last workday before you start, so here you are.

You were right on time and sit down on one of the provided chairs. You look left and right at the others sitting there. You don’t know any of them… well in person, but you might have seen one or two at school. The quiet chatter that filled the room stops as you hear the door closing. You turn your head to see who entered.

It’s no other than the “Star” of the school; Madison Cork. Honestly, she looks amazing. You spent hours fantasizing about her. She is a tall brunette goddess with the body of a model. She has long toned legs, a firm, trained butt (that’s how you imagine it), and nice c-cup tits. You bet she has a six-pack that complements her athletic appearance perfectly. But it is not her looks that make her the most popular girl in school. It’s her charisma and natural authority that makes her popular. She would make a good politician but she only cares about soccer and going pro.

But right now, she starts giving instructions on the start of the workday and the route each one must cover. Honestly, it doesn’t sound too hard.

You have to start early each day, but you are done once you finished your route. You know one thing you’ll train your endurance to finish each day as fast as possible.

You turn your attention back to the front; just in time, because Madison finished her speech and started to distribute the city maps with the individual routes on it.

It doesn’t take long before she comes to you.

“Your name?”

“Simon Hughes”

“Here you go” Madison hands you your map. “I hope you listened closely. You shouldn’t continue to daydream on Monday.” She throws you a contemptuous look as she continues to distribute the maps.

As she finished, she returns to the front of the room and dismisses you all with a quick reminder to be here on Monday at 5 a.m.

You fold your map in half and walk towards the door. But just as you want to go through it a girl storms in. Her face is deep red, and her hair tousled. She obviously ran but is “a little” late, nevertheless. She stops a few centimeters in front of you.

“I’m late. I know. Is it over? Ohhh no! You are all leaving. Damn alarm! Damn bus! Ugh, what a day!”

You are baffled and overwhelmed by her monologue and the fact that she shouted it in your face. You want to answer but instead, you make your (kind of) signature move: You open and close your mouth without making a noise.

“Ohhh, sorry. I didn’t mean to shout at you. I’m just really late.”

She doesn’t give you another chance to say something (or act like a fish) because she squeezes past you. You look after her as you exit the room.

You expect to see Aubrey already waiting for you, but you can’t spot her or her car from the sidewalk. So, you guess you have to wait. You spot a bench nearby and decide to enjoy the warm morning sun on your skin. You don’t know when Aubrey is going to be here, as you didn’t agree on a specific time.

“Hey” You hear someone behind you.

“Hi, Aub…” Your words get stuck in your throat once again as you turn around. The girl who shouted at you earlier stands behind you.

“May I sit down?”

Afraid to bring your signature move again you just nod in response.

“I am really sorry for shouting at you. I was just angry at myself for being late. I shouldn’t have shouted at you like that. Ohhh, I forgot. I’m Kayla Stevens. Nice to meet you.”

“Hi, I’m Simon. Nice to meet you, too.”

“And no worries about the shouting. I was just really, really surprised… so never mind. “

“Good… Good. Another topic: Did you take notes on what Madison said. She just gave me the map and left.”

“It’s a little embarrassing… but I didn’t really listen to her. I was kinda daydreaming. But I can tell you when we shall be there on Monday… If it helps you?”

“I haven’t thought about the starting time… good call! But did you remember anything about payment, insurance, or such things?”

“No, sorry. …” You hear the sound of a horn nearby interrupting you. You turn around to see the source of it. It’s Aubrey’s car. “Well, I gotta go. See you on Monday, Kayla! 5 a.m. and bring your bike.”
