Chapter 2 by G3G6 G3G6

Who is our Main Character?

Lore

Authors note: The story with Mika is actually an ongoing RP that I'm translating to text best I can. I've never written stories before and IDC if it's bad, it's fun to post even if no one reads. Anyhow, here's some world details that I'm going to mention time to time. I'd like to just explore the world through stories primarily. And yes I repeat the intro cause I'm lazy.

The year is 3608. Sector 7 of the Ring, a solar system spanning construct, completed almost a thousand years ago in 2647. Earth is but a husk, the remnants of what was. Some still reside in the blackened irradiated rock of a planet that was torn apart in the quest for resources, but not many. The Ring orbits the sun a bit farther than the Earth, it's cold, despite the constant sunlight. Filtering through the never ending rain clouds it casts a dreary light on the trillions of inhabitants of the Ring. 40 times the surface area of the earth much of it is given over to vast agriculture and industry. Drones handle the majority of repairs and maintenance that the Ring requires. Still, some of the things that go wrong can be unresolved for decades.

Portions of the Ring that are residences fall on two sides of a coin. Grand sunny ranches that have weather manipulators clearing the sky, the homes of the wealthy. And the tall bleak blocks of steel and concrete that tower miles into the sky to house the rest of the Rings inhabitants. Some of the buildings are so tall to escape the Rings atmosphere and require gravity stabilizers. The Ring would take over 22,000 years to travel around on foot, the mag trains go at incredible speeds to overcome the vast distance between parts of the Ring.

The people here struggle to survive in many of the same ways the people 1600 years ago did. Often working dead end jobs that have no future other than to pay their bills and protection money. The countries of old Earth are gone, their culture quashed in the flames of nuclear war long ago. The people now focus on what helps them survive, often relying on new tech that is expensive and scarce. Controlled by corporate investments and religious zealots.

Implants and cybernetic enhancement is becoming rampant, besides a few objectors. Gene therapy was outlawed in 3012, although the 200 years of unregulated Gene therapy previous had far reaching consequences that have become normal to everyday life.

The only light in the Ring comes from outside, as the saying goes, is true. The humans living outside the downtrodden hub of mankind have a much nicer standard of living. Either in their personal spacecraft that, to some is their only home. Or in a far reaching space station floating above a distant moon, at least it's theirs and the arm of the corporations of the Ring are only so long.

The creation of the quantum gateway in 3448 leads to even more distant parts of the Galaxy. The gateway is the only viable way out of the Sol system, and being controlled by the corpos exploration of the stars is minimal. Usually reserved for the huge resource expeditions that often take the form of xenophobic colonial campaigns across the stars. Who knows what civilizations they could be subjugating, only the ultra rich can afford to keep some of the "trophies" from other worlds...

The Ring is populated by trillions of humans, each an individual and different. The cybernetic enhancements of the new age and the gene therapy of the old have led to variations of all sorts in the people and creatures that live on the Ring.

The populace is approximately 45% Female, 43% Male, and 12% Futanari. The latter is growing at an alarming rate for some. This is due to the Futa's increased virility, and also that every child born with a single futa parent (even with female mother) will also be a futa.

Jobs within the Ring are as varied as it's people. From desk jobs to space exploration, one could end up anywhere. Most common are the laborers, either at a desk or in a factory these people work endlessly for their food and housing. Next are the vast service industry workers that could range from the local noodle shop to a more intimate service. There the typical crowded masses end and the unique specialists take over.

Tech Savants prowl the Ring in search for work, using their vast knowledge of tech to manipulate and make their way in the world.

Subjugators claim they "clean up" after humanity, corralling anyone who cannot pay rent or fall into debt into their "service". Slavery is not explicitly illegal on the Ring. Some sectors frown upon it more than others, and for some it's a facet of every day life.

Steeltoes are considered expendable assets to the corporations, if their own troops are to valuable to risk, a group of 'volunteer' Steeltoes are rounded up to be thrown into whatever malicious plan that is required. Often hired as bodyguards and hitmen, these are barely a step above your everyday thug.

Handlers are the best and quickest movers of goods around the Ring. Utilizing often dilapidated ships and salvaging what's left over after a corporate takeover a new sector, these are the few pilots and their crew that aren't owned by corporate interests.

SECTOR 7/16

Considered "Contested" by the corporations, it has no overarching governing body. The sector is not in a full state of war however. Altech is the prominent corporation and is putting vast resources in play to monopolize it's influence in the sector. Try as they might they come up against other corps such as Bealite Inc. and Trihand.

Also included in the power struggle are the crime syndicates which flourish under these circumstances, and attempt to prolong them. The Ronin Syndicate, The Gutter Gangs, and The Darkblades are the three primary gangs or syndicates in the sector. With inclusions from other sector's gangs and upstarts within the sector the crime underworld has no limits in the sector.

When the corps are not in complete control over a sector, a volunteer local police handles the everyday goings on. This is thin however and cannot compete with even a small organized gang. Often corrupt themselves it's hardly something to rely on to keep peace.

The sector is generally residential, with the supporting agriculture and industry under constant pressure from the corps to sell out. The streets are crowded and dangerous in a lot of the sector. Some neighborhoods are better than others, usually dependant on how valuable their workforce is.
