“Maybe I am out of my depth, but what other option do we have?”

“Give up,” Maria said quietly.

“Excuse me?” I asked, not willing to accept what I just heard.

“We need to turn over what we have to the Mexican National Guard and, then, head home. This whole mission was based around the premise of having someone on the inside. Meyers-Jimenez was the key. Without her, we’re fucked.”

“Which is why we’re going to find her,” I stated, annoyed by the can’t-do attitude.

“Okay, we’ll keep looking, but this mission is a bust either way. If we find her and extract her, then her cover’s blown. If we find her and leak the information back to El Dominio, they may or may not save her and they definitely won’t take her to any private meetings immediately after.”

“No!” I shouted, unconsciously standing and yelling down at the agent in charge of our little taskforce. “My sister was taken by these bastards, just like Gracie. I am not going to give up and go home without her!”

“And what leads do you have?” she asked sardonically, but finally sitting up and giving me more attention than her uneaten breakfast.

“I can compare what you took from the depth gauge and try to find a rough course for them, but I can’t guarantee anything,” Badger added.

“See, that’s a lead.”{else}“We have the data from Miguel’s phone and we know that they were at the harbor and supposed to be going on a sailboat. Surely we can investigate that?”

“It might be worth looking into, especially if some of my friends can get on board and follow them,” Katja added.{endif}

“There’s also that guy you killed,” David added a bit too bluntly.

“Um, yeah. I kinda left him at the Parkers’ house,” I said abashedly.

“Fine. Look into it if you want, but it’s a long shot and I don’t think this operation can succeed without our asset inside,” Maria said unhelpfully, but at least giving us the go-ahead to act.
