Chapter 6

What's next?

Katya Comes Home

Eventually all good things come to an end. It was time for the curtain to settle on this act for a short break while you set things up for the next stage.

Katya would be home soon.

You tried to imagine what her reaction would be to walking in on her sister and mother making-out. If you had to guess? Not good.

You could smooth things over with your abilities, but that approach was a bit too heavy-handed for you. You preferred a more delicate touch, so you ordered Veronica and Alexis to get cleaned up while you set the stage.

By the time the door bell rang, any indication of the debauchery that had taken place had been erased.

"I'll get it," you say, slapping Veronica's ass to get her to leave her spot on your lap. Obediently she moves off to the side allowing you to stand yourself.

"You're a guest," Alexis argues, "Allow me."

"You've already done so much," you simper back, "I couldn't possibly. Just take a seat, I'll get the door."

The doorbell rings again, twice in quick succession. Katya must have been getting impatient.

Alexis reluctantly takes a seat, and you make your way out of the living room in a slight hurry. Opening the front door, you have no trouble offering the girl on the other side a sincere smile. "Hey you. Remember me?"

Katya hadn't changed much since you last saw her. She still looked basically the same, though perhaps a few inches taller. You give her a quick once over.

It was September 23rd, and the weather was an uncertain thing. It seemed to switch randomly between the cool chill of the coming winter months and the warmth of the summer that had just passed. Today had been an exceptionally warm day, and Katya was dressed for the weather.

She was dressed in a manner that very much fit the sexy-nerd archetype. On the one hand, she was wearing short-shorts that showed off most of the legs, as well as a tank top that left her midriff bear. On the other, her shirt had a unicorn on it and had the word 'magical,' printed on it.

Katya's face morphs into an expression of shock, before a smile appears. "John!" she exclaims, "Oh my God! It is so good to see you."

She lunges for you, capturing you in a hug, drawing an 'oomph' followed by a quick laugh. "Easy, easy," you say, still smiling. Stroking her back you mummer, "It's been far too long."

"It has," she concurs, the smile finally dropping from her face. Her brows draw into a concerned furrow as she asks, "What are you doing here? Not that I'm not glad to see you, but I thought you and Veronica broke up?"

She was fishing for information. After your break-up with Veronica, you cut off all contact with her family, and Veronica was hardly going to tell them she cheated on you. This meant the extended Rodriguez family remained in the dark.

While in the past, this may have enraged you, now it allows you to spin the situation however you want to. They would hardly know better.

"It's a long story," you tell her honestly. "Are you sure you want to know?"

"Of course I do," Katya says. You see a spark of interest in her eyes, alighted by the prospect of hot gossip.

"Alright then," you say, "The story is a bit risque, but just remember, you asked for it." Another one of your favored tactics. Make a person agree to something without telling them the full details before taking that agreement to illogical **** with your powers.

Turing you lead her inside, taking her to the living room where Alexis and Veronica were seated on two separate couches. Katya freezes briefly at the entrance hall, taking in the scene.

Her mother and sister were sitting across from each other quietly on two separate couches, while you had taken up a seat next to Veronica. The television wasn't playing. There was nothing cooking. No background noise.

For all intents and purposes, the world was dead save for the four of you, and as you, Alexis, and Veronica turn your head to face the still dithering Katya, the scene must have seemed quite unsettling.

"Well," you say, the smile never once having left your face, "What are you waiting for? Take a seat."

Nervously, Katya entered the room, the jovial mood of the past few moments having wilted. Still she took a seat next to Alexis, looking back and forth between the three of you, trying to discern whether or not something was wrong.

Eventually Katya broke the silence, "Is... something wrong? I'm sorry but this is looking like the beginning of a cult horror game." Then, realizing what she had said, she opened her mouth to clarify, only to be cut off by your laugh.

"No, no," you say. "Nothing like that. This most certainly isn't a horror game." You don't bother addressing the cult portion of her statement. Nonetheless it sets her at ease.

"Oh, okay. Good." A little bit of tension exits her body language before she continues, "Well, you wanted to speak to me about something?"

"Right, well don't worry. It's good news." You pause here, "Well, good-ish news. Veronica and I have decided to give the relationship thing another go."

Katya squeals in delight, "Oh my god, I am so happy for you two! I guess that this means that we will be seeing you around more then?" Then her brows furrow in confusion once more, "Wait, but then why is this good-ish news?"

"Veronica and I have been in a relationship for a while and- Well, I suppose I'll have to be blunt about this. Veronica can't satisfy me in bed. She just isn't very good."

"Oh," Katya says processing what you just said. Once she does, her face contorts in disgust, "Ah. Is this something I really need to know?"

You shrug. "I told you that the details were risque and we are talking about romantic relationships here. What were you expecting?"

"Not this," she says in a furious whisper, eyes drifting towards the window as though afraid that someone might be watching, "I was expecting- I don't know. Something more normal I guess?"

"Well maybe you shouldn't have agreed to listen then," Alexis says, before quickly being backed up by Veronica. "It's just like John said, if you don't want to know about the details, then you shouldn't have asked."

"Aren't you the least bit embarrassed that your boyfriend just said that you suck at sex?" Katya asks, looking at her sister as though she was a freak.

"I'm getting better," Veronica retorts defensively, "Mom's been teaching me. And besides, I'm not John's girlfriend, I'm his whore."

"What?" Katya doesn't look like she knows where to start with that sentence. Even Alexis looks a bit concerned and surprised. She was under the impression that you were her daughters boyfriend.

You cast your mind out trying to figure out how to salvage this situation. You didn't want to go for heavy-handed mind manipulation like you did with Veronica, but that might be your only way of getting things back on track.

How do you handle this?
