Jessica leaves

Jessica runs down the steps, finds her way to the front door, and flees the mansion. She runs off into the dark night, tears in her eyes, toward an uncertain future. She doesn't know where she is going, but she knows why. She can't stay another minute with Elizabeth and her sadistic brood.

Jessica doesn't look back, not once.

Jessica keeps running through the sleepy outlying regions of the city, for hours and hours. As she flees, the events of the past several days play over and over in her mind. The needless cruelty. The shame is strong in her, but gives way to euphoria the farther that she runs. I escaped. I control my own destiny. Elizabeth lost.

She finally collapses in a heap, exhausted. She isn't sure what her next move will be, but she is happy with the distance she has put between her and the mansion. Just over the horizon, she can see the first light of dawn creeping up into the quiet sky, illuminating the clouds from below. Jessica realizes she needs to find shelter, soon. But part of her wants to watch the dawn and purify her soul in the sun's fiery rays.
