Hidden Secrets

I land back in the hole in the wall and Liz lets go. She looks around for a few minutes before turning to me.

"You're lucky I'm here." She says while smiling smugly.

"And why is that?" I ask her and she walks away. She walks up to the wall and turns to me.

"Because you let your eyes trick you." She says before falling backwards. She falls through the wall and disappears. I run over to the wall in disbelief. Both my horns and Mana Sense are telling me that it's a normal wall. I put my hand on it, only for it to go right trough it. I smile and jump through. On the other side is a blinding light and some trees. I take out my wings and see Liz in a small lake. I land on the shore and she swims out. "Cheater." She says walking past me. I turn around and see her pull a switch. The wall next to it opens and a moment later Luna, Myla and Hino walk in.

"What is this place?" Myla asks.

"It's an oasis. Lots of Ruins have them, although they mostly come sooner. Not after the final Boss. But we should look around. Oasis's always have loot." Liz answers and we split up. I check my map to see if Harvest has marked any of these trees as a harvestable resource. Unfortunately it's empty, and I close it. I'm about to start flying to the other side of the room when someone shouts.

"I think I found something!" Luna shouts and I turn around. She's pointing into the lake. At the bottom of it I can barely make out a glimmer of metal.

"I'll get it!" Hino shouts from the other side of the lake. I see her put her hands in front of her and close her eyes. She opens them and pulls her hands apart. The water in front of her parts and she slowly starts walking. The water regathers behind her and continues to part in front of her. I see that it'll take a while and fly off. I start looking for anything but can't find anything else. I turn around and sigh before I start walking back. I step forward taking my wings out and trip over something. I look down and see a metal box corner sticking out of the ground. I use my Dark Claws to dig it out and look at it. It's a small shining metal box. It's about a foot and a half wide and a foot tall. I try to open it but can't find any openings. I sigh and store it away before flying back to the others. I get back just moments before Hino walks out if the lake. I see she's pulling on a handle to a chest. I fly over and hover above her small clearing and tuck my wings away. I fall next to her and help her pull the chest out. I notice now that her clearing she made has shrunken and the chest is only halfway out of the water. The other half is still in it. We pull it out and once we're back on land she sits down.

"Was that your gauntlet and boots ability?" I ask her and she nods.

"Yep, it doesn't use mana but it does tire me out. My grandmother used to do this daily. Either making really intricate sculptures of water or swimming at ridiculous speeds. Meanwhile I can barely move it around myself." Hino says in frustration.

"You'll get there. Just keep practicing." I say trying to reassure her.

"You sound like my dad. And I'd love to but the closest lake to us is an hour long drive away."

"Yeah, but you have a ocean on your finger now." I say and she looks at me confused. I point to her hand where her ring she got when I made her Citizen is. She laughs seeing it.

"Oh yeah, you wouldn't mind if I dropped in to train, would you?"

"Feel free. Although be careful. If you tell Luna you're going to train she'll beg you to let her join." I say and Luna pouts.

"It was one time!" Luna shouts from my right and we laugh lightly.

"So, what'd you find?" Liz asks us. "Because I found squat." Hino stands up and opens the chest. Inside is a small red scaled covered creature. It spreads out its wings and opens its mouth. It yawns and starts shaking, almost like a dog.

"Holy fucking shit!" Myla says quietly while stepping closer. "It's a baby Dragon!" She continues excitedly.

"Wait, why was it in the chest?" I ask but she ignores me. She reaches out to it, I don't know why, and it goes to bite her. She managed to pull her hand away from it but looks upset. "What are you doing?" I ask her.

"I wanted to pet it." She says sadly.

"So, what are we doing with it? It's a baby so it's pretty harmless now." Hino asks us and I sigh.

"I don't know, what do you normally do to baby Dragons?" I ask them and they shrug. Suddenly Liz slams her fist onto her palm.

"Eric! You should try to make it your Familiar!" She says.

"What's a Familiar?" I ask her. I know the term from various games but I want to make sure it's the same.

"Put simply, it's a pet. But you can give it orders. Most Familiars are weaker creatures like wolves, giant spiders or other insects and the like. Just any creature that can be tamed. You'll know if it worked because a mark will appear on the back of your hand. This is a Familiars Mark, and you can send orders through it. So go on! Tame the Baby Dragon!" Liz answers while getting too excited.

"Wait. Why would I do this? Wouldn't it become a pain to hide and feed once it grows up? And is it even worth it?" I ask and Liz grunts angrily.

"Of course It's worth it! If you can tame a Baby Dragon then the other guilds would recognize your power! Not to mention only three Lyna in recorded history have ever made a Baby Dragon their Familiar. And don't worry about hiding it. It can stay in your Domain and you can even store it within the Familiars Mark. However only for up to six hours. If it stays in for longer then the mark will break and it'll get out, which will hurt a lot. You'll still be its master but you won't be able to store it away again for a week or so until it heals. Now reach out, pour your mana over the Baby Dragon and tame it!" I sigh, but do admit that having a Baby Dragon as a Familiar would be amazing. I reach out and do as Liz said.
