Head Into The Tunnel

Knowing time was not on her side, Mara turned her gaze away from the darkening sky and back toward the looming tunnel entrance. Swinging her leg back over the bike, Mara lightly revved the throttle before she edged forward into the darkness. The motorbike's high beam effortlessly sliced through the inky blackness, Kara had been right there were no cars inside, at all.

At first, Mara thought this was odd until she realised the mass of cars outside was a makeshift barrier. After driving the motorbike for a few moments Mara wondered whether the barrier had been built to keep something inside the tunnel or try to keep something out. This thought stayed with her as she rounded the bend and was surprised to see the tunnel entrance ahead was blocked.

A cold chill ran down Mara's spine as she heard a timbre snarl emanating from one of the service tunnels. Instinctively she slid off of the motorbike. Mara could hear her heart pounding in her chest as the snarling grew louder before a dark shadowy figure emerged from the tunnel opposite. Mara was unable to see who or what had emerged due to the darkness within.

The figure seemed to be drawn to the spluttering motorbike, moving forward they wandered through the motorbike's high beam toward it. As the bike was turned off the tunnel was plunged into darkness once more. Mara held her breath as the figure slunk back into the shadows before a dull click was heard and the tunnel lights above burst into life.
