He is a shapeshifter

Sophie: "I don't mean to be insensitive, but what's your deal?"

Dan: "You mean what'd I turn into?"

Sophie: "Yeah."

Dan: "Well I'm not exactly a regular transformee. You know how some just turn into weird shit, and some turn out to have these bizarre powers?"

Sophie: "A-ha."

Dan: "I'd constitute for the latter."

Before your eyes, the man seems to melt down, and is soon but a flesh-colored puddle on his bed. You... guess that that's his power? Just turning into a liquid? That's pretty neat you guess.

After a moment of just staring at a molten human, he springs to life by beginning to morph into different shapes. A bouncy ball, a stretchy dough, a rigid brick. And then, having seemingly showcased everything he knows how to pull off, he reforms back into a normal human.

You give a small applause for the impressive feat.

Dan: "Thank you, thank you. Heh."

Sophie: "Doesn't that hurt?"

Dan: "Nah, I'm not even sure if I'm able to feel pain anymore. It's really fun doing that, to be honest."

Suddenly the dinghy hospital shelter they've set up over what looks like a parking lot is starting to look uninviting. The ground is burning under your feet, so to say.

Sophie: "(Hey, wanna sneak out of this joint?)"

Dan: "Uh... I guess I could, it's bothersome waiting around."

You both go up to the front desk and ask if you can leave.

Nurse: "Suit yourself. But uh, you sir should stay put for the moment. Dr. Coitus will be here any minute."

Dan: "Nuts."

Sophie: "Don't worry, I'll just wait outside until they let you go."

Dan: "Where will you be?"
