Grant meets May

Grant was sitting at his new desk, reading all of S.H.I.E.L.D's files. He could just make himself know everything he needed to, but where was the fun in that? Grant wasn't a passive person. He liked to actually do things, and that hadn't changed with his new powers.

He was so absorbed in his reading, he was caught slightly off-guard when the door opened. He glanced up after a second. Melinda May was stood just inside his office, her gun already pointed at his head.

"How the hell did you get out?!" she yelled, her face a picture of anger.

"Coulson let me out." Grant replied, slowly. He could stop her with just a few words, but he wanted to see where she would take this.

"Like hell he did. And even if he had, he wouldn't have left you alone in his office." May insisted.

"Well, he didn't. He made me the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D, so it's not his office, it's mine."

"You're insane! Coulson would never do that!" Grant shrugged, smiling.

"He did. He trusts me to lead." Grant's smile got wider. Everything he was saying was completely true. He had made it true.

"It doesn't matter what you've deluded yourself into believing, I'm taking you back to your cell." May said, glaring daggers at him. Grant rolled his eyes. He'd had enough now.

"May, you trust me completely. You are fine with me being out of my cell, and with me being the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. You've forgiven me for everything I've done." As soon as the words left his mouth, May holstered her gun.

"Sorry about that Ward. I don't know what came over me."

"It's fine Agent May." Grant said, smiling at her instant change of heart. The power he had over people now, he loved it. After a second, he decided he wanted to do something a little more drastic to May. "Anyway, I'm glad you're here. I wanted to give you a promotion."
