Grab Her

You get Carrie’s cross and put it back on her neck. She moans as if in pain. With your adrenaline pumping you pick her up in a fireman’s carry and run.

You reach the stairs in no time and begin descending. You reach the platform for the second floor and hear loud footsteps below you. You look around and see a fireman’s axe behind glass. You put Carrie down and she sighs.

You open the glass door and grab the axe. You descend the staircase and see a large, bald, muscular man. He strides toward you growling. As he gets close you swing the axe as hard as you can.

It collides with his head causing it to snap sideways with an audible thud. He takes one more step toward you and falls to the ground.

You run up to retrieve Carrie, who is sitting against the wall quietly moaning. You pick her up and run downstairs. On a hunch you head down another level to the basement.

You exit into a parking garage. You see light and run toward it. A minute later you are outside and totally exhausted.

Carrie mumbles. “Bright…too bright.”

You hail a cab and one pulls over.

A middle eastern looking man looks back and in a heavily accented voice asks, “She ok?”

“Too much to drink. I need to get her home.”

You give the driver her address.

Twenty minutes later he pulls in. You manage to drag her up the stairs, get the emergency key from underneath her hideaway rock. You lay her down in her bed and she sighs.

For the first time since rescuing her you examine her. She is pale and has a fine sheen of sweat on her. There are two small puncture wounds on her neck.

You wonder if you should just let her rest or take her to a hospital.
