Executing the rescue plan

You begin to finish up making an improvised explosive out of one of the spare battery packs you packed for the repairs to the ship.

"How do you know how to make an explosive?" Yasmin asks.

"Back when I worked as an asteroid miner, I worked with a man named Johan" you whisper back.

You cut one of the wires which keep the battery from overloading and attach it to the casing.

"He showed me" you explain "helps you mine faster; however, it's far more dangerous."

You finish to set it off you just need to twist two wires together.

"OK," you say, showing the small, almost grenade-like explosive to Yasmin.

"That will have to do," she says grinning.

"OK, here we go" you ready your rifle as she does the same.

"GO!" you order as you two begin to fire your way into the village.

You run down the hill, explosive in one hand ready to explode the carcass and rifle taking out any "grey-apes" that get too close for comfort.

Taking aim at one that comes out of a hut, you fire and kill it before it even knows what is going on. You kill another as in closes in on Yasmin as she shoots one that grabs a spear, little more than a sharpened stick to attack you.

Nearing Rachel, you tell Yasmin to grab her and run.

"I'll set off the explosive," you say while a spear nearly hits you.

You fire and kill the offender who threw the weapon at you.

"Got it" Yasmin yells over the shots and moves to untie Rachel from the post.

You fire at any creature that comes close to their position, it seems Rachel is still ****, or so you hope.

"Run!" you shout as she unties the bindings.

Yasmin picks up your sister onto her back after a brief struggle, and begins to run out of the village. You continue to fire attracting their attention as she makes her way out, as she does so you feel a sharp pain coming from your back.

"FUCK" you yell as it knocks the wind out of your lungs.

Turning around you find the one that threw it, dispatching it quickly, finding another ape ready to throw one as well.

"Nope," you say as you end that one attempt early.

You continue to defend yourself, and after a minute you toss your rifle, throwing it to your feet you tie the two wires together, the battery starts to get warm in your hand.

"Here goes nothing," you say as the explosive lands near the base of the bloated mass.

Upon seeing it land you pick up your rifle and begin to run out of the village, turning at the last second to hide behind a hut, and lay flat upon the ground and cover your ears.
