Escape through the drainage tunnels

You have no idea what is approaching, but the Burning Rose gave you a mission and you aim to complete it. You pry open the grate leading to the drainage tunnels and motion for Glenda to crawl inside. Before she can, the damned imp swoops into the tunnel, chuckling and flapping his way into the darkness.

Glenda gets down on her hands and knees and crawls in, her firm bottom outlined in her damp, white gown. You take one last look towards the doorway. There is another loud thud that shakes masonry from the walls. You say a quick prayer for your sisters and crawl in behind Glenda, quickly closing the grate after you.

The tunnels are dark and the floors slick with moisture. The path ahead will drop suddenly, spilling you and Glenda into a tangled heap in a pool of stagnant water or a rusty cistern, clambering your way back out and into the pipes while you endure the laughter of the imp. Muck smeared, sweaty, and tired, you finally reach the outflow grate. You and Glenda kick it open together and the imp flaps in a circle around your heads.

"That's it, girls. You're home free now!"

"You awful thing, won't you go away?!" pleads Glenda.

"Go away? I'm your good luck charm, sisters. I bet none of the rest of you made it out."

The imp is smiling, but the comment lands like a blow on you and Glenda. Could you really be the only survivors? You snarl and swat at the imp.

"Mind your tongue, imp, or I'll cut off your little tail."

You crawl out of the drainage tunnel, your gown torn and your hand scraped, but you are relieved to be on your feet and in some relatively fresh air. You are in a cave in the lowermost part of white rock cliffs, right where the waves of the sea meet the coast and flood into the cave in whooshing, foamy streams to lap at your toes. You stretch and suck in another welcome lungful of the sea air. It has never tasted so pure before.

"We've made it out. Now where do we go?" Glenda walks with you out of the cave and into the lapping surf. It is a good question. Climbing back up the cliffs seems impossible. You could follow the beach and see where that takes you.

"Good idea stay here," suggests the imp. "Build fire and entertain ourselves. Have fun."

His fanged grin is not very convincing, but there is the seed of an idea there. Merchant and fishing ships regularly travel along this coast. If you built a fire you might be able to signal for help.
