ENCOUNTER the Warden. On a Miss, she has you practice Banishing.

You wake, reaching out for Fay, and feel your hand move through empty air. You're in a narrow little bed in a narrow little room, alone. Fay. She was rooming with some visiting student, they said.

You rise from bed, feeling chilly without a shift. Your skin prickles in the morning air, and your feet are cold on the bare floor.

You put your hand on the doorframe. The Warden is in the outer chamber, unclad, her brown curves bare in the dim morning light. She stands in the middle of a circle, doing exercises. Banishing, invoking, banishing, manifesting again. She does a final banishing and dismisses the circle.

"Good morning, Morgan," she says. Before you have a chance to ask her anything, she adds, "Here is your wand. While you're staying with me, you will do these same exercises every morning. Cast a circle, banish, invoke, manifest, and banish. Commence."

Standing naked and shivering with your wand in hand, in the middle of the Warden's chambers, you start fumbling your way through the exercises.
