Sunday
Church
I didn’t see Natalie the rest of the night, she stayed in her room probably on the phone, so I called it a night and went to bed. Passing her door, I heard music playing so I knocked on the door. Natalie turned the music down but didn’t come to see what I wanted, so I called out to her through the door.
“In my opinion it’s time you started acting responsible so tomorrow morning I’m going to take you to church so you can see how people act in public!” Letting that sink in I continued, “So dress appropriately!”
“Whatever Graham!” Then the music was turned back up, not loud enough to make the walls shake but loud enough that I got the hint that I wasn’t to speak to her anymore that night. Little did I know that we had very opposite ideas of what dressing appropriately for church was.
Eight O’clock I was up, sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast when Natalie came out of her room. As she came into the kitchen my eyes bulged out of my head.
“Is that what you’re going to church in?”
She had on a pair of cut-off blue jeans shorts and a white top that just hid her breasts with the opaqueness of the material.
I just continued eating. After swallowing what I chewed on, “If you think you’re going to go outside dressed like that then you’re sadly mistaken!”
“Jesus it’s only church! Not like the preacher is going to be interested in me, after all I’m the wrong age and sex for them!”
"Just go change, you don’t have to dress in business attire but you aren’t going out of here looking like a streetwalker either!”
Natalie just rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath but did go back to her room. I finished eating then put the dishes in the sink to clean later after getting back from church. I went to the car and waited for Natalie to appear. Honking the horn, brought her out of the house.
Snottily “Does this meet with your approval?”
Natalie stood there in a floral summer sundress. It wasn’t what I would have chosen but for her it was a definite improvement. I didn’t say anything, just nodded my head and Natalie came around the car and got in. We arrived at the church and Natalie saw that she wasn’t the only one dressed that way, a few mothers and her daughter were similarly dressed.
We sat through the entire service , were back in the car on the way home when I spoke to Natalie. “Now that wasn’t too hard to put up with was it?”
Was It?
