Chloe tells Zack about the change

When Zack, Gavin and Brandon returned to the cabin, the former two went straight to Gavin’s room and found Chloe sitting on what formerly was Victoria’s bed. They stared at their female friend with surprise.

“Chloe? What are you doing here?” Gavin asked, puzzled.

“Uhm,” the girl stammered. “This is my room now too.”

“What do you mean by ‘this is my room’?” Zack asked, surprised. “Where’s Victoria?”

“She wanted to switch rooms,” Chloe answered. “With me, Zack.”

A puzzled look came over Zack’s face, one that quickly changed to one of panic. “But then it means that she’s…,” he trailed, unable to complete the sentence.

“With Kurt?” Gavin offered.

Chloe nodded. “We already moved all our stuff while you guys were at the lake.”

Zack couldn’t believe that, his legs felt like jelly, as if they would give in under him any second now. He wobbled to Gavin’s bed, sitting across from Chloe. He took a few seconds to gather his thoughts before turning to his friend. “How could you let that happen, Chloe?!” he asked, a pained look on his face.

“I didn’t have a choice, Zack, I'm sorry,” Chloe replied, starting to get upset for her best friend. “The only plausible reason I could think of that could’ve stopped her was revealing your crush, which I know you wouldn’t want me to say anything about.”

Zack hung down his head before letting out a long sigh. “You’re right, sorry for yelling,” he pinched the bridge of his nose.

Gavin sat down next to Zack, the three of them with a somber expression. “So, it’s over then?”

“I don’t know,” Zack said. “I was still optimistic after I thought they had kissed, but moving into the guy’s room is too much.”

“Zack,” Gavin called his attention. “I may not know much about relationships but I’ve always thought you focused too much on Victoria when you should’ve been considering all your options.”

Chloe smiled at their friend’s insightfulness. “Gavin’s right, Zack,” the redhead agreed. “The world hasn’t ended, who knows what could happen now?”

“I have my issues that prevent me from talking properly to girls other than Chloe and Victoria, but you don’t have that,” Gavin stated. “You can do whatever you want, Zack. Even steal Victoria from Kurt if that’s what you decide.”

Zack closed his eyes and let a wide smile spread over his face. “Thanks guys, I’m lucky to have you two as friends.”

Chloe and Gavin stood up and sat down on each side of Zack. Chloe placed a comforting hand on Zack’s right shoulder. “That’s what we always were, right?” she asked. “We may have new friends now, but the three of us,” she paused, squeezing Zack’s shoulder. “Nothing can tear us apart.”

Zack and Gavin smiled and nodded at her, the bonds of their friendship strengthened more than ever now.
