Busting the Burglars Part 4

Evelyn and Marcus walk towards Deputy Justine Baker, who was talking into her radio. Once done, she turned to her fellow deputies.

"Guys."

"What's the situation?" Marcus asked.

"All clear, but someone had hell of a party here."

"Right. Anything else?"

"There's a door to the basement that's got a new padlock. We considered busting it open, unless you've got other ideas?"

"Sure do." Marcus pulled out a lock-picking kit from his pockets. "I'll take a look."

"Cool."

Justine led the two to the locked door, where another deputy is waiting. As Marcus got down to unlock the door, Evelyn asked "When did you learn to do that?"

"When my girlfriend's dad tried to lock me out of the house."

"Never knew you were a true romantic."

"I was. Right until the point he put a shotgun in my face." Marcus then threw the lock away. "Alright, let's take a look inside."

After drawing his pistol, Marcus headed downstairs into the dark basement. If Brian is there, he'd have heard deputies above him, which meant he had plenty of time to plan an ambush. Once he entered the basement, he looked around, activating the light attached to his Glock 23. Seeing no one in the room, he looked to a locker where Brian could be hiding. When he threw it open, he found jewelry that had been stolen.

"Clear." He shouted, as Evelyn looked around, seeing no way for Brian to enter with the door locked. Still, she'd prefer to work with someone who was cautious rather than complacent.

"Anything interesting?" Evelyn asked.

"Yeah, he's been here."

Once he'd bagged up the items and the padlock, Marcus proceeded to check the rest of the house for more evidence, whilst Evelyn waited outside with Justine. Once Marcus is done, he walked back to Evelyn, who asked "You find anything?"

"Not really. You want me to drop you off?"

"If you're done with me?"

"Yeah."

The two head back to Marcus' car, where he said "Thanks for coming out."

"No problem. At least we found some of the shit he stole."

"Yeah. We've got him on the run. Only a matter of time until he runs out of money."

"Hope so."
