Blacksmith

Chapter 5 by darkl22

You finally remember: she said she needed to go to the blacksmith before she went to any of the parade. And so in the direction of the blacksmith is where you head.

The streets filled with celebrations begin to thin out as you walk further out of the city centre. Crowds of people turn into a few scattered families, visiting shops or heading towards the parade itself. The vibrant reflective banners give way to wooden houses and cobbled streets that clack loudly underfoot. After just 10 minutes of walking, you arrive at the Artisans Circle, a series of shops dedicated to the crafts. Ultimately, this is where you want your family business to end up.

Rows of blacksmiths, leatherworkers, custom knife makers, and jewelry shops offered anything you could ever want in one circle of shops, but John didn't have enough money to buy from places like these. She goes somewhere special.

Ducking down a small, dark alleyway situated between Aargon's Custom Battle Axes and Joosaar's Jewelry, you find yourself in a place that the sun almost never touches. Looming multi-storey shops on either side make it almost impossible to see far ahead, the walls only half a metre apart. Using your hand against the wall, you follow the alleyway further into the darkness until you spot a faint glow ahead: a sign illuminated by a single lantern. Ragnor's Blacksmith. This is where you and John can afford to buy. Reaching the door, you knock a single time before a little bundle of brown hair opens the door and jumps at you.
