Chapter 66 by Vain Vain

What's next then...?

Between Heather and Ashley

"You sure that you're ok...?" Heather asked gently as she sat down by Ashley's side on the bed, and noticed how her friend was giving her a quick look over before meeting her eyes. And for quite a good reason she guessed, as she still hadn't switched into something a little more appropriate than her undies and the apron she'd grabbed on her way out of the kitchen.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" The blonde girl tried again to reassure her, and it actually seemed like she was more intrigued about Heather's outfit than particularly shaken after Kurt's **** on her. In fact she looked just a little too much at ease with the situation already, that it almost caused her to wonder if she'd somehow misinterpreted the whole situation. But Ashley seemed fully content that Kurt was gone at least, so there was no reason to think she'd been making a bad decision in sending him away.

"Well, if you say so..." Heather nodded slowly, and felt most of the tension and anger leaving her as leaned in to give her friend a quick hug, which caused her to slump over her shoulder for a little longer than she'd intended.

"Just... don't say anything to Brandon, ok...?" Ashley asked her after a couple of moments - which was exactly what she'd been telling Zack just a short time earlier -, and she looked like this was a far more important question than of what Kurt had actually been doing to her. "Promise...?"

"Yeah, sure." The brunette just nodded tiredly while letting Ashley go again, and noticed how her friend seemed almost disappointed about her breaking away already. "But you know you'll have to tell him something, right...?"

"Yeah, of course." The other girl smiled at her cautiously, and then surprised her with a slight hint towards understanding Heather's own worries. "I won't go to court or anything about Kurt though...! And I'll try to be honest about the whole thing when I'm telling Bran..."

"Honest, how...?" Heather asked her, with a bit of suspicion sneaking back into her mind again. There was something here that didn't quite make sense, and she was starting to see where it was leaning to. "Ash, would you tell me what actually happened here...?"

"Well, he grabbed me when I was on my way out." Ashley told her, while sounding about as honest as she could, but then sighed a little as she seemed to decide she had to say something more. "It all started yesterday though, and I think he mistook me for wanting... something more..."

"And what happened yesterday, exactly...?" Heather insisted, but now feeling curious more than actually worried or suspicious any more. "Did he try pulling one of his stunts on you...?"

"Well, yeah." The blonde nodded frankly, which caused Heather to almost start laughing out loud in disbelief, and in turn making her chuckle as well while trying to defend herself. "Yeah, I know...! It's just so fucking stupid, right?"

"Hey, don't worry about it!" Heather just grinned at her then, and brushed her fingers through the other girl's long hair. "I've seen other girls falling for that, who weren't nearly as blonde as you are!"

"Hey...?!" Ashley tried to object, but then laughed again as they got tangled up together for a moment - until Heather finally pulled free and stood up to leave. It looked like the blonde was wanting to ask or say something else then, but hesitated in the last moment and just sat back slowly on her bed again.

"What...?" Heather asked her - though she didn't really expect an answer -, and then turned once again to leave.

"I just wanted to say... It was a nice show, by the way..." The other girl finally said, and caused her to glance back over her shoulder in surprise, before she found herself bursting into a much warmer kind of laughter.

"You're welcome!" She winked back at her friend, and both of them grinned at one another, until she finally stepped out and closed the door behind her.

Suddenly there was a few more pieces of the puzzle falling into place for her, and she found herself strangely invigorated by the idea it may not have been Kurt's idea at all to spy on herself and Zack. Things did indeed make a lot more sense now - when especially when she remembered the way that the other girl had been looking at her -, and there was a new fresh bounce to her steps now while she pondered what this could mean for her continued relationship with her good friend Ashley...

Where to now then...?
