Chapter 19 by SmallestStories SmallestStories

This is still too much waiting...

And once you're out ?

It didn't take as long as you first thought for Aji to finish cleaning her dishes, and before you knew it, you were back outside. The air was warm, and for once not mostly polluted, since you couldn't see even the slightest hint of a car anywhere. It was weird at first, but then you remember the afternoon was already half done, and that might be why there isn't any car here.

Aji started walking, after closing the door to the building, and you followed her without a word, almost as usual.

"So we need to find someone to train you, as well as a companion for you." Aji started, before continuing shortly after with. "The thing is, the only Gifteds I know around here are the ones who... You know, yesterday..."

She didn't say it, but what she was implying was clear : they were the ones who made the massacre you witnessed the previous day, and this realisation made you feel as uneasy as Aji was currently feeling.

"We don't have a choice, right ?" You asked, thinking up on the spot as you continued. "But you know, first impressions aren't always showing everything people has to offer."

Aji responded at your words with a sigh, but you could see by the way that her ears slightly perked up and her tails started slowly swaying that your word reassured her a bit.

"You are not wrong." She ended up saying. "I actually met them a while ago, and they seemed quite friendly, so who knows. Let's not... Not bring yesterday up, alright ?"

"Yeah, might be better for us like that." You simply answered, not letting this subject get any more thinking than it needed to.

Afterwards, you continued to follow Aji for a while, looking around you to witness the city towering over you in some places, feeling almost like little towns in others, and going completely green in yet other places. It was not breahtatking, nor was it really great to look at, but what definitely swayed you was how peaceful it all looked : No loud noises, no people screaming, no car taking up the whole background noises with their engines, nothing... And the peace and quiet you were feeling made you feel quite good, even though you didn't have anything else to say about it.

"This is why I quite like this city." Aji suddenly said. "Even though it can be home to some disturbances, it is mostly calm and empty. Almost no one argues which each other since we are so far from principal cities, and when midday hits nobody really uses their cars."

You quietly nodded when Aji turned her head to look at you, a smile on her lips. Seeing your nod, her tails picked up a very little amount of speed, but enough for you to see a difference, even though you had to look closely to see it.

Coming up... Somewhere ?
