An Assassin Poised To Strike

The gently swaying foliage is obscuring your figure crouched near the top of the forest canopy. Looking down you vaguely spot a dark blur moving from shadow to shadow about 50ft away on the forest floor. The text floating above his head is grayed out and almost opaque as he rises from his hiding place and raises a longbow bringing it to a full draw before the arrow hisses out of the trees to take a minotaur recently freed by one horn square in the throat. The large beastman dissolves into a fine black powder and leaves behind a small loot bag. Taking a closer look at the almost hidden text above his head you read Ricardo The Shadowborn lvl 5 Rogue (Assassin).

As soon as his arrow was in flight Ricardo was again a blur of darkness skulking through the undergrowth surrounding him, your eyes following his movement like a hawk. Kind of ironic thinking about it really, more like a raven, but bringing the crossbow up and aligning your target dead in the center of the sights, he slowly rises and begins to draw back to full when your quarrel hits him with a resounding thud.

His eyes immediately find you hidden in the canopy and after recovering his footing from the impact, raises his longbow in your direction. You watch as the sun glints off of the broadhead arrow as it races for your own heart, moments before the impact that would have surely killed you, the branch you rested on sways with the wind and it slams harmlessly into the trunk of the tree inches from your face. Extending your clawed talons and making a sweeping dive from your perch at the enemy rogue, along the way tossing the hand crossbow to the ground, he nimbly dodges to the left and you merely graze his leg in the first dive.

A dagger flashes towards you as you come up from the dive and grazes the inside of your chest just below the arm. The Flash of pain is gone as soon as it hits and circling like the bird of prey you are, you watch for the perfect opening to finish this hidden assassin off for good. When the moment comes you don’t believe he truly saw you, coming in from the cover of the canopy and dropping with a speed only an apex predator could achieve, your talons wrap firmly around the back of his neck before your quick ascent snaps it.

With the hidden shooter dead without thought you pocket the bag that appears at your feet and ignore the floating text mentioning a level up floating before you. Your attention is now back on the edge of the camp. For the most part the minotaurs are holding their own but the goliath of a man named Avery seems to be a problem, every time one of the slavers gets close to getting knocked out of the fight he casts another healing spell.
