Chapter 4 by Seserith Seserith

Who are you?

An A.I.M Expeirment Gone Rogue

You were pacing up and down the length of your small bedroom by this point. You felt as if your entire body was packed with a kind of nervous energy. How could you not be excited after all? "I'm a God, a real deal bona fide God!" you muttered to yourself. There were so many thoughts running through your head at this point.

What would your first divine act be? You didn't feel like you should effect anything here at the moment. After all what if you screwed up somehow, and couldn't change it back? Then you caught sight of the comic lying on your pillow. Spider-Man stared back at you frozen as he posed in between web-slinging. That was it!

If your power was as limitless as advertised then making a fictional universe a real one was a piece of cake. The only problem was when, and where, and more importantly as who? This made you start to pace even more furiously as you tried to think of a satisfactory answer.

You could just replace someone established in the Marvel universe, but the thought didn't hold much appeal. You could just pop in and grant yourself a grab bag of powers, which was admittedly more tempting but you've always preferred the more immersive experience honestly. Maybe you could pop in as a small forgotten background character, but that just sounded boring. What was starting to dawn on you was that you had no idea what the hell you wanted. You needed an outside source because it was obvious you weren't coming up with anything by yourself. If you just had a reference or a guide-book then this would be easier. You stopped abruptly.

You couldn't stop the chuckle that escaped you. How could you be so dumb, if you didn't have the answers yourself you could just ask for help. After all, divine revelation was a thing you could just ask for now. You closed your eyes and held a hand as you sent out a thought, and felt a pulse of that electric charge you called divine energy leave your body. A moment later and you felt a weight settle itself in your hand. When you opened your eyes you found yourself staring at a large book. The book's cover depicted Spider-Man, Captain America, and other assorted heroes facing off against a multitude of villains. Above in large bold white print, the title read: The Marvel Encyclopedia "The Definitive Guide To The Characters Of The Marvel Universe."

Of course, you could've just had any information you needed to be transferred directly into your head at a moment's notice. However, opening the book and seeing the stylized ink signature of Stan Lee staring back at you cemented your decision; especially when you saw the text underneath. "I'd read page 125 for some inspiration. Who knows it might just be what you're looking for. Excelsior! "

"Thank you, Stan Lee," you mumbled to yourself as you quickly flip to page 125 and sit down at the foot of your bed. The first thing that strikes you is the massively enlarged cranium of M.O.D.O.K splashed across the page in graphic detail. You swear you can see every disturbingly enlarged vein stretched tautly along his temples. However, what quickly grabs your attention is the object he holds in his hand, shining with other-worldly energy. The Cosmic Cube!

A blurb on the side of the illustration read: Cosmic Cubes are items that can control matter and energy, answering to the will of the sentient beings that use them. They require practice to be used properly, but a skillful user can alter all reality to answer to its thoughts, granting anything they desire. A.I.M had many experiments with building and using Cosmic Cubes for evil. Many of these projects are stopped by the righteous might of the Avengers. However, remnants of their evil experiments still remain such as the Super-Adaptoid!

That was it! Already a plan was starting to sketch itself in your mind. A man... no, a mutant captured and experimented on by A.I.M using a Cosmic Cube. Hoping to use his mutant abilities in conjunction with the Cosmic Cube's to create the ultimate weapon, only for him to shirk their control and escape. Honestly, it was a bit contrived and a little predictable but you thought it was serviceable. Plus your divine abilities should be able to iron out all the little kinks and details, right? You had a universe to explore!

"Here goes nothing!" you thought as you closed your eyes and visualized the divine spark inside of you. Letting a strange intuition guide you, you mentally grabbed a hold of that spark, and whispered to it. "Let my will be done." You began to feel heat bloom in your chest as the spark seemed to shake erratically. You started to hear a high pitched ringing in your ears as if you were having a bout of tinnitus, and you no longer felt the bed beneath you.

Soon the ringing started to fade instead replaced with the rush of air as if you were traveling at great speed. You felt sudden fatigue fall upon you as if you had finished a marathon and it felt as if some cold fist gripped your heart. You opened your eyes as you struggled to breathe, and saw countless lights streak past you in a bizarre kaleidoscopic frenzy. The deafening roar of stellar winds filled your ears, and you somehow knew what was happening. You were creating the universe and somehow traveling through it all at once. Like you were riding some kind of large cosmic wave of creation, and you knew exactly where your destination was. With that realization came your own gasping attempts to plead for this to be over, for someone to stop this insane jaunt through universes.

All of a sudden it did stop, and all you could see was darkness, and all you could hear was silence. No, that wasn't right you could hear something. A faint repetitive beep that reminded you of hospital equipment. Slowly light began to seep into your vision, and you could hear movement around you. The cold fist in your chest slackened its grip upon your heart, and air rushed into your lungs you took relieving gulps of air.

"He's...awake."

Where are you
