Chapter 22 by Gatsha Gatsha

What will Bella come up with?

A simple solution.

"I've already got it," Bella said with a smile. She did a small, confident curtsy. "Easy-peasy for Bella Tasteasy!"

"I am ecstatic," Ralli told her, still sounding far more concerned than ecstatic as she seemed to be begging for Bella to spit it out.

"Ah ah! You're clearly starving, Ralli. Let's grab some food, and then we'll head to our quarters. I'll make a quick stop by my room to grab it, then we'll eat dinner together as so pleases me. You look like you've been through the wringer, if you don't mind my saying... I want to hear all about it, love."

"Yes. You can also explain how to use whatever miraculous strategy you have devised," her friend suggested. She seemed impatient, but she had also moved into line: Ralli rarely turned down a meal, and to do so after the exercise she'd just put in would be madness.

"Ho ho... Don't get your hopes up too high, dear. It really is very, very simple. However, sometimes the simplest things can be beautiful in their simplicity, especially once they are laid bare..." she suggested, letting out a sigh of contentment as she seemed to be watching Ralli and considering something else.

Ignored by Ralli, sounds from Bella's room suggested her work. There were footsteps... then, a number of grunts of exertion as something was pulled apart... the grunts came four times, and there was a frustrated growl as something was dragged across the floor...

Finally, the door opened, but Bella didn't step right out. She emerged slowly, dragging two four standing poles with a canopy and curtains between them. They looked far too opulent for a teacher's salary, a deep and suggestive red with thin, gossamer material. They had a drawstring, but Ralli could tell they didn't part as she'd ordinarily expect curtains to do. Bella was nowhere near as athletic as Ralli, and it seemed that tearing these apart as she had was physically taxing for her. "Here... Please, Ralli... T-take these...!"

Hurrying, Ralli opened her door, leaving Bella standing in the hallway and gasping for only a moment. The sergeant returned and easily accepted the poles and sheets from her friend. "Excellent. You have my gratitude. Please tell me how the magic works."

"The... m-magic...?" Bella continued to gasp, raising an eyebrow. Even still, a smile crossed her rosy face.

The magic of these curtains is...?
