Chapter 5 by zenxraider zenxraider

What's next?

A not-so-good morning.

Visions of battle and the crackling of lightsaber combat fills your dreams. Flashes of a dual yellow blade crashing against the twin sabers of red and purple fill your mind's eye, accompanied by shock followed by pain as the bridge-borne arena erupts in a fury of fire and shrapnel. You knew as much as you bore witness to it all through the eyes of one of the combatants, though which one you couldn't guess. All that filled your mind, both figuratively and literally, was pain, and it was this pain that drew you from your restless sleep. A groan escapes your throat as you unsteadily rise to a seated position in what felt like a meager cot. Blearily, you clear the fog from your eyes and scan the area you now occupied; a sparsely furnished and slightly run down studio apartment.

"Good to see you up instead of thrashing about in your sleep. You must've been having one hell of a nightmare," came a man's voice.

"Carth," you answer hoarsely. "My head feels like it's been split in two. What happened?"

"At least you recognize my voice. That's good to hear. How's your memory? What's the first thing you can recall?"

You glance up to see him seated in a chair by the only table in the apartment, the rays of twilight streaming through the shades of the two, ceiling-high windows overlooking the bustling metropolis of the Taris Upper City.

"Crashing on Taris," came your dry reply. "I remember there being three of us in that pod too."

"Jaina is safe and sound as well. She's in the bunk pod next to yours still asleep and recovering from her wounds. You took a nasty blow to the head that knocked you out cold and have been slipping in and out of consciousness for a few days now. I'd imagine you're pretty confused about everything going on since then. Just try not to worry, we're safe. At least for the moment. You were banged up pretty bad when we crashed but luckily I wasn't seriously hurt. With all the confusion going on from other pods hitting the city and the battle up in orbit, Jaina and I were able to drag you to safety and into this abandoned apartment here in the upper city of Taris. By the time the Sith arrived on scene, we were long gone."

"I suppose I owe you one," you say with a smirk. "Thanks."

"No need to thank me. I've never abandoned anyone on a mission and I'm not about to start now. Besides, if we want any chance of escaping off this planet, we're going to need your help."

"The occupation," you comment.

"Exactly. More than that, they've declared martial law and imposed a planet wide quarantine. I've been in worse spots but it's still not ideal. I also noticed on your service records that you understand a remarkable number of alien languages. That's pretty rare in a raw recruit but it should come in handy while being stranded on a foreign world. As it is now, there's no way the Republic will be able to break through that blockade without bringing the entire fleet. If we're going to have any hope of rescuing Bastilla and getting out of here alive, we can't rely on anyone but ourselves."

"Don't be so sure of that. In my experience, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but I get you. We'll have to keep our heads down to avoid suspicion. Any idea where we should start looking?"

"I did some scouting around when we got here and found reports of some pods crashing down into the Undercity. That'd be a good place to start, but not until we've done some proper preparation. It won't do any of us any good if we got ourselves killed by being careless. Getting down there won't be easy either since only uniformed Sith patrols are allowed down into the Lower City. Also, this should go without saying but try not to use the **** so openly while we're here. You're pretty damn strong, I saw as much back on the Endar Spire, and I doubt you're a Jedi like Jaina is but using power like that is just going to draw unwanted attention to us."

"And what about Jaina? She can't exactly go running around a Sith occupied world in Jedi robes."

"I'll be taking care of that tonight when I head out to the cantina to get us some credits. Clothes are pretty easy to come by so she'll be able to blend right in. The local cantina is where I do most of my information gathering. **** creates loose lips, plus the pazaak tables aren't a bad way to make some quick cash. Perfect for some stranded grunts like us."

At that point, Carth stood from his seat, stashing away a small hold-out blaster into his jacket.

"At any rate, I'm going to head out. Tonight's the night when soldiers for the local garrison usually hit up the local bars to unwind and party, so with any luck I should be able to grab us some uniforms that we can use to slip into the Lower City unnoticed. Take a moment to get your bearings straight. There's some food in the synthesizer too if you're hungry. Good to have you back with us, Soldier."

Bidding goodbyes, Carth disappears out the front door of the apartment, leaving you alone with the sleeping Jedi. Now that you finally had some quiet time to yourself, you decide to sit in the middle of the apartment and begin meditating, stretching out with your Godly abilities and testing what was and wasn't within your capabilities. To your relief, nothing felt out of place or unordinary, or at least nothing unordinary for a God. You also noted that the memories of Revan were rooted deep into your subconscious, locked away by Jedi interference yet free for a Divine such as you to access at any given moment, and implying your spirit had been occupying Revan's body rather than bringing your original body with you. In an ironic twist, you found yourself quite literally self-inserted into the storyline. Of course now at the helm of this adventure, you were faced with an immediate crossroads to address.

  • Would you follow along with the storyline as originally intended? Going quest by quest throughout KotOR exactly as how you remember it? Light or dark didn't matter, only the experiences that came with it.
  • Would you deviate even further by making liberal use of your powers to shift the continuity in whatever direction you desired? You already started after all with saving Jaina's life.
  • Would you wholly abandon the path of Revan entirely and forge something completely new out of the ashes of the Jedi Civil War?

A/N: Yes, a proper KotOR branch for our favorite story. Or at least as proper as it can get with a Godly being in the boots of Revan. I know my submissions have been pretty sporadic lately, between numerous different threads and stories, but at this point I'm just writing whatever comes to mind before it can be lost. At the very least, this plot bunny has been hopping around since I first started the Star Wars thread way back when, so it's high time I put something to paper. As always, feel free to jump in with any ideas of your own. Till next time!

Make your choice!
