Chapter 14 by crunchyspag crunchyspag

Who is tapping your shoulder?

A nervous merchant's wife

You turn around to see who is tapping on your shoulder. You see that it is a mature woman of some means, wearing a nice dress that hugs her body's curves a little too tight. Dressing a bit young for her age, eh? Long dark hair hangs down over a well-fed face that retains some of the beauty of her youth. She is retracting the hand she used to tap you while the other is clenched nervously by her mouth. "H-hello, I saw you by the church. You are in need of money, yes?" You nod your head. "O-oh, ok, that's good. I mean, that's not good, but, I mean..." she stops to collect herself. "I'm sorry, I've never done something like this before. As you may have guessed, I am married to a merchant. He is a decent man, but...it's just that, my husband has been away on a venture for soooo long. For all I know, he could be dead! Killed by pirates or bandits, or whatever else. I want to be a good wife to him, I really do. But I have my needs, you know?" She looks at you imploringly, hoping you will assuage her guilt. "Sure" you say coolly. It is a bit selfish of her, but you could profit from this.

"If you come back to my house, I'll pay you for your company. And your discretion." She averts her eyes, looking to the side out of embarrassment, nervousness, or both. Hmm. This could be a great way to earn easy money. Would it count in the spirit of the begging trial? And it does go against the whole idea of the first trial. But then again, do you even care about Eliza's silly trials? It's all rather confusing.

Do you agree?
