Chapter 3 by gothamalleyviper gothamalleyviper

What's next?

A couple on their way to a Sorority House Halloween Party

“Aren’t you glad we drove?” Jake asked.

“Fine, you were right,” Sally said looking at sheets of rain landing on the windshield, “Three miles outside of town isn’t that bad on a nice day, but with this rain…”

“Yeah,” Jake said as he messed with the lights, “I have a question, I know the Bay annex there is where they do the Oceanopgrahy, maritime history, maritime archeology and fisheries classes, but what is with the sorority house?”

“Oh, that’s how the college got the property,” Sally said, “It was built by an old fishing baron to over look his docks and cannery. After he died, his widow busied herself with the college and when she died, she left the house and all of the property to the college.”

“Fun,” Jake said.

“I was offered a place at the sorority during rush,” Sally said, “But I didn’t want to be that far from you.”

“Yeah, and I don’t think they would let me crash in their basement or anything,” Jake made a poor attempt to make a joke.

“I don’t know, maybe a nice little kennel with a doggy bed,” Sally teased.

Suddenly there was a bang and the car spun wildly for a minute as Jake tried to control the vehicle.

“What happened…” Sally gasped.

“Hold on.. “ Jake said as he worked to bring the car to a controlled stop.

After a minute of working, Jake put the car in park and reached down into a door mounted cubby. He pulled out a bright red plastic bundle.

“What’s that?” Sally asked.

“A rain cape,” Jake said, “You remember my crazy uncle, the one in the army?”

“Yeah,” Sally arched an eyebrow.

“He gave me this and a bag of stuff in the trunk for just in case of emergency,” Jake said as he opened up the package and pulled out the red plastic cape, “I thought he was crazy, but he made me promise to keep it ‘just in case’ because he said I would need it one day. Turns out he was right.”

Jake put cape around himself as best he could and grabbed a flashlight before opening the car door. As he exited the vehicle, Sally looked down the road and could see the lights of the old manor house turned sorority house in the distance. It didn’t take long for Jake to come around to her side of the car and knock on the window. Jake held the cape so he covered the car window. Sally opened it a little and turned to ask what he found.

“Grab the keys,” Jake said, “We have a blow out. Might as well walk the rest of the way.”

“Fuck,” Sally said as she got her purse and the keys out of the steering column.

As the pair made their way to the sorority house, Jake held the cape around both him and Sally.

“I guess your uncle wasn’t that crazy after all,” Sally said as she hugged close to Jake.

“I guess I owe him an apology,” Jake admitted.

What is going to happen when they get there?
