Chapter 10 by ErstwhileFool ErstwhileFool

How does it go for Zack and Gavin? What about the ones in the water?

A change of weather forces a change of plans

As Taylor and Gavin were walking back to the cabin, a long peal of thunder suddenly sounded across the lake. Gavin glanced to the horizon, where a mass of black storm clouds could be seen rolling in.

"Looks like it is going to rain," Taylor spoke up. "Sorry, Gav, but I think we will have to postpone the fashion show. Not sure I want to have to explain things to Hannah when she finds you with me in our room on our first day here."

Gavin nodded glumly. Whatever the spell was that had been cast earlier looked like it had broken. While she mentioned postponing rather than canceling the fashion show, he suspected the moment had been lost. However, the fact that she had been willing to go along with his suggestions meant that he might be able to find a different opportunity. Maybe lightning really could strike twice.

As Heather, Madison, and Zack reached the edge of the lake, the sound of thunder came crashing down, and with it their plans to head to the island. With a thunder storm approaching they would need to move inside instead.

"Well, I guess I will just have to show you the island later," Heather stated. She had thought it would be fun to tease her cheerleader and observe her interactions with Zack, but that could just as easily be done back at the cabin, so the incoming storm was not too much of a bother for her.

"Yeah, maybe we can check it out tomorrow," Zack replied. Heather's mention of the island being a great place for privacy had stuck in his mind, and he imagined asking Victoria to come there with him. In fact, even if he could just include Victoria in the group that went tomorrow that would make things better. He was suddenly in a decidedly happier state of mind over the change in plans.

Madison just sighed. Heather had told them that she would just show them the island and then leave, so Madison had been looking forward to spending some time alone with Zack far away from the eyes of her brother. Postponing their trip increased the chance that others would learn of it and decide to come along. She silently cursed the weather for ruining her day.

Those swimming in the lake also heard the thunder, and soon everyone was gathered on the beach in order to return to the cabin.

"Hey, where'd Taylor go?" asked Hannah.

"Don't know," replied Zack, now a bit worried at his sister's absence. "Did she return to the cabin already?"

"Maybe," Hannah answered thoughtfully. "I didn't really see where she went when she got out of the lake."

As Taylor's towel was no longer in evidence, they quickly decided she must indeed have returned to the cabin. That settled, the group began making their way back themselves. Once back at the cabin, those who had been swimming took showers and everyone got changed and ready for lunch, where a somewhat groggy Chloe joined them.

While they were eating, they began to discuss ideas for the afternoon. A hard rain had started to come during soon after they had arrived back at the cabin, and the occasional flash of lightning assured that no outdoor activity would be available. While several suggestions were put forward, there did not seem to be a general consensus forming, until Hannah thought of a good idea.

"You know," she said. "We should play a game."

"Like a board game?" Heather replied. "We have some in the cupboard I am pretty sure."

"No, I was thinking of something else," Hannah answered. "Not all of us really know each other that well, so I was thinking a game to break the ice a bit. I'd be open for suggestions if anyone has a specific game they want to try, otherwise we can do something like truth or dare or spin the bottle." Hannah looked around the room, checking if anyone had an idea for a game they wanted to share.

Does anyone make a suggestion? What game do they end up playing?
