A Volunteer for a Top Secret Experiment

You see a thin white older man in a black suit and sunglasses, your classic "Men in Black" look.

"We are lucky we found you." The man says. "I don't think you appreciate the difficulty we've had in getting the proper clearances and paperwork done. You can't back out now, you know that."

You look around at the three men, confused. "I...uh...I think you've got the wrong..."

The thin man continues. "If five million dollars doesn't convince you think about the value to science, think about the value to your country. You're a patriot aren't you?"

You stutter. "Five...Five million dollars?"

The man nods. "As per the arrangement. Five million cold hard cash in one hundred dollar bills. Nothing traceable just a briefcase full of money at the end of the month and you never hear from us again."

Your mind is frantically trying to put it together. Five mil for a month's work? What did these men want from you? God, that money sure could solve a lot of problems for you right now.

The man continues. "We could have chosen anyone for this experiment. It is your every-man quality that makes you perfect. But we are far to advanced in our preparations to properly screen a new volunteer." He laughs. "I mean we could just grab any lucky schmuck off the street, honestly anyone would do, but it's too late for that."

The limo hasn't moved yet, the pedestrians pass by on the hot summer sidewalk. You sit there thinking. Surely they would realize you weren't who they thought you were. Wouldn't they? What kind of experiments pay millions of dollars? And who are these guys?

You could put an end to it now, but then you'd lose your chance at that money. You turn it over in your mind. Five million dollars! That would change your life forever...for only a month's work...but you'd be some sort of lab rat...
