Chapter 12

How goes the election?
A Landslide Victory
The time of the general election had come.
With the warlords now thoroughly exterminated and the loyalty of the Liberian Armed Forces now dedicated to Aviel Mandebaum with the thorough purging of corrupt officers, her ascension to power was smooth and bloodless on the day of her election win.
Masses of cheering civilians greeted Aviel as she ascended the steps to the Liberian Presidential Palace, ready to officially take her vows as she was sworn in as the new President of Liberia. Camera crews both local and from abroad eagerly snapped pictures and broadcast this juicy piece of news.
One could scarcely imagine the hottest headlines of the day: “Jewish woman sworn in as Liberia’s new President!”
Who could possibly ignore it? It is a known fact that Jews often faced the harshest discrimination in Africa just after the Middle East, and for not just any Jew but a White Jew to take presidency in an African country with a majority Black population was a completely unheard-of thing.
Africa had a terrible history with slavery and mistreatment under White superiors, and even today the scars and consequences of mismanagement under the Whites, especially the Belgians, remain a prominent memory for the Africans. A white person emerging as the leader of a mostly black nation?
And how was it possible for a Jew to even survive and thrive in Africa in the first place? Africa had never been a truly hospitable home for Jews for long; the Romans culled them several times during the time of their empire, the Muslims taught their people for generations to hate the Jews, and that hate spread throughout Africa.
Which is why countless politicians and experts were left scratching their heads in utter confusion on just how this Aviel managed to win such widespread support and acclaim in spite of such factors.
And yet, Aviel had done the impossible; after joining the True Whig Party as its Minister of Economy, she quickly turned things around using her considerable personal fortune and her connections back home; she rebuilt the Liberian power grid to make it safer and more reliable; she reformed the army from the ground up into a formidable fighting ****; she revived the education industry and gave learning opportunities to countless children living in poverty; she started factories and gave people jobs.
Liberia’s Economic Revival was nothing short of a miracle; few held the opinion that Liberia could recover from its civil war in 2010, and with a corrupt and inefficient government at the helm it simply drove the nail into the coffin. No one believed the imprisoned warlords would stay silent forever.
Now, with Liberia’s economy continuing to grow and the LAF providing security and protection amid a tumultuous Africa, and with Liberia’s infrastructure only continuing to improve, Aviel’s popularity shot through the roof, and with so many politicians eager to curry favour with her or at least avoid getting on her bad side, they supported her as their candidate for president.
To the side, Augustine Tomah quietly seethed behind a mask of calm and cordiality, angry that this upstart won this political victory and exterminated all the Warlords of Liberia. He had to admit, he severely underestimated her.
But he was a patient man; he waited ten years before he could attain his current position; he would wait a hundred more to attain total victory if he had to.
Good things came to those who waited.
Barnabas Angel was a man just past the prime of his youth at the age of forty, his face bearing a few scars from his time in the IDF. Grim-faced and dour, he was like a statue at best and a menacing beast at worst to the generic onlooker, and a highly respected figure in both the IDF and many corporate circles.
He served for five years and fought many battles in Iraq and Afghanistan, and attained the rank of Colonel as one of his lifelong crowning achievements. After taking a shot to the leg, however, doctors deemed him unfit for combat duty, and he was honourably discharged from duty.
He turned to succeeding his father’s small business in the manufacturing industry, making cooking utensils in their family-owned factory, but debtors and unscrupulous rivals brought them to the brink of bankruptcy.
Unsubstantiated rumours say that angry at his father’s impotence and his mother’s betrayal, he turned on them and killed them in cold blood, before assassinating and ruining his rivals and debtors and forcing an end to his family’s misfortune. From there, he proceeded to build a business empire with many factories, outlets and business connections and amass a stuffed treasury full of personal wealth to splurge at will.
Through his accumulated wealth and fat salary, he has the means of covering major expenditures. Through his connections, he has a vast amount of political power and influence few dare to challenge. Through the destruction of the Knesset and almost virtually all its members, Barnabas Angel was the de facto leader of the Israeli parliament.
And this was not enough for him. Not by a long shot.
He swiped his phone, and made several furious taps on the screen. As he looked at its contents, a small smile crept onto his face with each and every option he scrolled through.
“Hmph, and they say China is a prime example of tyranny… incompetent louts, the lot of them,” He scoffed to himself.
With one final tap, the decision was made, and tomorrow, all of Israel would fall in line to his party’s leadership.
By the time the fence-sitters and other corrupt politicians in his Amas Party realised what was going on, their graves were already dug and their coffins awaited their final residents, and given time, Israel would come to accept his vision of a united and strong Israel.
No longer would they have to worry about the West, about America and its lackeys. Israel would stand on its own and emerge triumphant.
He had to admit, the Affection Multiplier made it so easy.
For now, he has his way.
