Ah, yes, Star Craft, legend even today in the annals of RTS gaming.

The original game was actually going to be much more nuanced and sophisticated than the final product became, but it ran into problems of playability and hardware development.

However, in terms of strategic versatility it was quite simply a triumph. With an engaging campaign, and diverse races each with its own adventures and strategic capabilities, it was quite relatable for normal people and became an instant classic.

The expansion pack, "Brood War", added new units and strategies to all the factions, but above all others it made the Protoss effectively omnipotent as they could gain the powers of all three factions... IF they could survive long enough. However, that strategy has proven ineffective in tournament play, where the humans have ultimately reigned supreme, using a strategy known as the XCV rush.

Following up on the end of the storyline from Brood War came the new title "Star Craft II: Wings Of Liberty" and it's own expansion pack "Star Craft II: Heart of the Swarm". Panned by critics as being nothing new or interesting this author has no opinion on the new game because he has never played it...
