If Real time can be considered old school, now we're talking about paleolithic gaming.
Turn based Strategy, a genre spawned from ancient games like chess, but expanded out into the Modern Era in a dazzling array of game types. From barely disguised dating sims, to tactical combats with dozens of hostiles, this is the genre that requires foresight, planning and many times the goodwill of the RNG gods.
What's more, the genres run the gamut, from Sword and Sorcery Arena combat like "Gladius" up to alien blasting mayhem with the "XCOM" series. Even Stealth games have taken a whack at this gameplay style.
