"Why wouldn't he like you?"

"I'm not from the mainland...He doesn't really see me as Japanese at all." She mutters. "He will probably tell me not to worry about Sachio and to mind my own business."

You aren't exactly caught up with the Japanese hierarchy. As far as you knew, the Japanese and their doctrine told them they were the best. That, more or less ironically, the nuclear bombs offered them a chance to become the sole ruler of the world.
