Chapter 1 by Jyger85 Jyger85

Cassandra Linda Doyle grew up in the shadow of her retired P.I. father, Kenneth, and her volunteer worker mother, Linda, wanting to help other people just like her parents did. Though her mother ran out on them when she was five, she nonetheless held great admiration for all she did to aid others. During an incident wherein Cassie and her girlfriend, Olette, were nearly beaten up by her then high school bully, Charlotte, Cassie’s body turned solid as steel. It turned out that she was a Superhuman, a human being with a special gene that, when activated, granted the owner special abilities. She now had the ability to alter her body’s density and weight, allowing her to become as light or as heavy as she wanted, to become as hard as steel or completely intangible, to defy gravity and fly through the air, and to make the same alterations to anything she touched for a short period of time. With some prodding from her comic book loving girlfriend, Olette, Cassie decided to become the Intangible Starslip, protector of Star Lake, Michigan.

Chief among Starslip’s enemies is her arch-nemesis, Tammy Alfonso, AKA Fonzie. While she is very much an unironic stereotype of an old school gangster and mob boss, Alfonso is nonetheless a deadly and sadistic woman. She has made a history of using, manipulating, and stepping on the backs of anyone she could in order to get what she wants. After a shootout years ago led to the of her husband, Fonzie took over his mob for herself and began gaining control of most organized crime in Star Lake. She also grew to become fascinated by and obsessed with Superhumans, largely due to the fact that, during the shootout years ago, a woman who was caught in the crossfire gained intangibility powers, phasing through the bullet that then killed Alfonso’s husband. She sought out the woman, but never found her, never learning she was Linda Doyle, nor that Linda’s daughter would grow up to become her nemesis and seek to remove Fonzie from power, all so that her mother, who ran out on her and her father to keep them safe, might one day return home.

Fonzie

For years, these two have battled, with Starslip trying to keep Fonzie locked away in prison for good for all of the horrible atrocities she committed, while Fonzie desired to gain on the young woman who sought to take away the power she’d consolidated for herself. They are opposites in many ways, incapable of seeing eye-to-eye. And certainly, neither has any love for the other, nor could the Purple Paragon ever want to love or be loved by the self-proclaimed Devil of Star Lake.

…However, what if there were a time and a place, somewhere in the myriad parallel Earths that make up all of possibility itself, where something changed? Where the war against her nemesis took a toll on Cassie, or there were some sort of consequence of their battle that weighed heavily on her, or something else awful had happened in her life? What if, on the one day where she felt weak enough, where she needed some relief for all that she’d been through, where she just wanted, on one night, to do something others would never understand, she went to the one person she knew couldn’t judge her for it: The disturbed and sadistic woman who was none other than her arch-nemesis?
