Adventures in a lost paradise.

Chapter 1 by Caelum83 Caelum83

In another time and another place, there was a world filled with wonder. The inhabitants of this world called it Gadai. Thousands of different animal species living together in harmony on this fertile world, resulting in the most spectacular and unreal landscape views and feats no other living creature in any other realm or dimension might ever come across. Majestic architectural feats, vibrant colors and lights everywhere, nature defying feats like floating rivers, minerals with unusual characteristics or in a place they should normally not have spawned, everything was enriched and bountiful. At the root of this all was a race of unique creatures, something akin what we might call a fae. They were called the Naeiri and were the source of all the magical and magnificent creations.

The other races knew this and in a natural way started to give the Naeiri gifts, not as to honor a god, but more in a symbiotic way, to help let the Naeiri prosper so that the world could prosper. Naeiri were very elegant in their posture and how they moved. Their bodies were around 1 meter tall, slender and their faces were like humans, but sleeker and with less pronounced features, adding to their elegance and magical heritage. Within the Naeiri species, there were males and females. Males were the strongest of their kind and would normally do all the heavy labor. The females were more special. They looked more fragile and there were significantly less of them than there were males. A female's most unique attribute what easily sets them apart lookwise from males was their tail, which males didn't have.

Sometimes, when the Naeiri would procreate, a Princess would be born. A Princess is a female with extraordinary innate magical prowess and the prime source of Gadai's spectacular and magical scenery. Every Naeiri is born with magic, adding it to the collective, but this power does not compare to that of a Princess. A Princess' extraordinary fortitude also gave her as much extra fertility. Where a normal Naeiri female could bore a litter of 5-6 offspring, a Princess could easily bore up to 20 offspring. In the Naeiri community, female mating and finding a mate happened very peacefully. Females would let males know which ones could mate with her. Princesses, due to their magical powers, had an even easier way of showing which male was an eligible mate. When such a male would come near her and she was fertile, the magic withing her body would react to the male's presence and she would literally light up. Princesses, being quite unique, powerful and able to bear many offspring, never lived close together but always naturally lived apart, starting their own colony when they got of age, in the same process spreading magic to new places.

At the height of Gadai's prosperity, Princesses would have spread all over the planet. Their species were in sync with the world, also probably due to their magic, which somehow regulated the birth of Princesses with the amount of space there was for a new Princess. Never has a male version of a Princess been born between the Naieri. Every race did his part in this natural cycle, that formed over time in a primitive world, until, as races evolved, one race that was already a muscular one that for centuries in the deepest, darkest corners of their beings had sparked a hunkering for power, started slowly but steadily tried to get mastery over the Naeiri's power of creation. They called themselves the Goroths and were bipedal, hairy, stood around 1,5 and 2 meters tall and looked very primitive and bestial. They wore trophies from creatures they had slain and their most clear features were their completely reddish black eyes.

At first, they tried via persuasion and gift giving to get the Naeiri to alter their creation to how the Goroths would like them. After a while, Goroth clans started to watch and inspect them from a distance, trying to learn more about them. A few years later, in a remote place, a colony of Naeiri started to lose members of its lower caste without a clear reason. Naeiri were not without enemies as Gadai hosted numerous predators of which a fair few had Naeiri on the menu, but where they were lost there was no clue as to a predator taking them. Then rumors started to appear about a Goroth clan that was growing more prosperous than most of the surrounding clans without clear reasons.

It didn't take long before throughout the Naeiri community in the whole region lower caste members of multiple colonies started disappearing without a trace. In the meantime, multiple other Goroth clans started to prosper as the first one did. Real alarm bells started to go off with the Naeiri when the community lost trace of a newly settled young Princess and the handful of members that had gone with her to settle in the region. A month later, she was found, naked and starved to , in the middle of nowhere. Right about that time, Gadai shook heavily when a sizable meteor collided with the planet. Not long after rumors were awash through the Goroth community about a new discovery.
