My movements were slow and careful as I made the bed. My body still ached from the night before, but I knew I had to get moving. Sunlight was peeking through the curtains: it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day... Not that I'd be allowed to leave the house and enjoy it.

After tidying up and getting dressed, I walked down the hall to the master bedroom. I could hear that the shower was running in the adjoining bathroom, along with several muffled voices and a thud, thud, thud against the wall.
