Fairy Troubles

The trials and titillations of a humble traveling mercenary

Chapter 1 by doppledon doppledon

You knew instinctively that you were about to smash into a tree as you had a pretty clear picture of the area you were fighting in and where everything was. It was a good instinct to have in a fight. Always know your surroundings. Your armor would take the brunt of the hit you were about to receive you knew as you flew through the air. All you had to do was angle yourself a bit to allow your armor to protect you. Your shield took a pretty big hit from the Drake's tail which is why you found yourself flying through the air. Assuming you survived this fight you'd have to make sure to fix any dents it took. So many thoughts flew through your mind as you waited for impact. CLANG. As you suspected your armor protected you from most of the damage from the tree, but it still rung your bell a little bit. That was going to hurt later.

You slowly picked yourself up after crashing down to the ground. Quickly you ascertain what the Drake was doing. For now it seemed content to remain defensive, waiting for you to charge in again. Which it would as they typically weren't very aggressive animals. Charging in as you did before was probably not the best way to approach this fight. You silently chastise yourself for rushing into a fight like that, but you were just so excited to find a Drake. It remained in the center of the forest grove. Like a small dragon about as tall as a horse, twice as long with its tail ending in a stubby club like ball of bone, and with stunted wings You knew it couldn't fly away from you as they couldn't fly, but it could run. You were lucky this one looks like it wants to kill you and is sticking around. Lucky you. However, the promise of gold for the Drake's hide and tail was too tempting to pass up, especially since they were so rare nowadays. It reminded you of a big lizard with wings.

You adopt a much more defensive stance and slowly start to move towards the Drake again. You watch its every movement. You can see the muscles tense and relax under its shiny green scales as it moves itself into what it thinks is the best position to fight you. Its golden eyes never looking away from you for even a second as it watched you slowly approach. You weren't sure how many hits you could survive from that tail, so that was the primary target you had to defend against. You approached semi-crouched down, ready to dodge the tail and hopefully get a shot at it with your enchanted sword. The Drake wouldn't be expecting your sword to be able to hurt it as most things couldn't, which is why it was likely still ready to fight you reasoned. At least...you hoped your sword could hurt it. You'd never really tested it before being this was the first Drake you had ever had a chance at.

When you got within the Drake's striking distance you noticed the muscles in its hind end suddenly tense up and the Drake inhaled sharply.
