Blind Daffodil

A tale of a blind university girl

Chapter 1 by SillyGoose SillyGoose

Prelude

Daphne Williams reminisced back to her first day; she was excited getting of the bus for the first time infront of her new home, Sorbonne University. It was chilly as the winter months had already began setting in but she found warmth in the many layers of clothing her mother had made her wear. Around her, the campus was bustling with people, most new like her; dotted around were older students holding up signs directing people around to different areas. Standing at 4'9", she felt dwarved by all the people around making her feel uncomfortable as she tried weaving her way through while also trying to navigate around.

After much troubles, she eventually arrived at a large reception area where new students like herself were forming three queues, lining up to find out which dorm they'll be staying at. Seeing each line was slowly getting longer, Dahpne jumped into the middle queue. After a while she got the strange sensation was watching her, looking around she saw standing in the queue next to her was a tall girl with short, spiky straw yellow hair. Upon realising she'd been seen, the mysterious stranger spoke confidently "you have very pretty eyes"... taken aback, Daphne blushed slightly before meakly replying "t,thank you".

"My names Georgia, Georgia Blake, but all my friends just call me George" said the no longer mysterious girl.

"I'm Daffodil, people just call me Daphne though", she responded still very shy, "its nice to meet you George".

Maliciously grinning George teased "oh, who said we were friends?!" but quickly followed up with "I'm joking!" seeing Dahne didn't pick up on the sarcasm and started having an anxiety attack. The akwardness that ensues quickly ended the conversation and the two stood next to each other in silence. Georgia's line moved quicker so she was seen first and dissapeared shortly before Daphne reached the front of the line. The older man at reception was lovely, slowly explaining everything she needed to know and efficently retrieved Daphne her room key and a map of campus.

After thanking the nice man, Daphe walked off and saw standing to the side was George who was seemingly waiting for her while sucking on what appeared to be a lollipop. Not knowing anyone else here, she walked over. "So", George began talking, "whats your room number... it says on your key". Examining the key, Daphne responded, "Monoyer Dorm, room 34". Estatic, George responds, "fuck off, no way, really! We're both in the same dorm!... I guess fate really wants us to be friends. Come on, I'll help you carry your stuff."

"Oh, don't worry, I only have my backpack currently"

"thats not a lot?" George inquired, "Everything ok financially?"

"yes!", Daphne responded, "everythings is ok, its just my parents are just arriving tommorow when everythings less hectic. They live far away and couldn't get time of work."

"sounds rough, well if you need to borrow anything in the mean time you just ask ok?" George said while reaching over to pick up two large boxes she had left on the side. Daphne wanting to be helpful walked up and slowly with lots of effort picked up the top box, "please let me help!". George seeing her struggle, "You sure, I'm fine carrying both, you really don't have too". "Yes I'm sure", Daphe, already walking away, responds "its ok".

After around 10 minutes of slow navigation, they finally make it to the Monoyer Dorm and after using the lift they make it to there seperate rooms on opposite sides on the same floor. Unlocking the door, Daphne walked in and slumped on the bed, her arms aching. Her room was small, walls painted a very pale pink colour, barely enough room to fit the bed and desk which was placed infront of a lovely window which faced out towards the nearby park and allowed plenty of sunlight to enter.

That was her first day at university, seven months ago now; one month since she last was in contact with George. Her time in hospital was lonely, the distance made it so only her grandmother who lived much closer could make reuglar visits. One week in and her surgeon Dr Mendez broke the news, the surgeries were unaffective, and so due to the incident, Daffodil Williams had fully lost her vision. After that, Daphne was assigned a specialist, Ruth Taylor, and two weeks later after recovering from the surgery, Daphne was discharged and returned back to Sorbornne University.
