An Adventure In Rules

Thomas finds a rulebook, what will he do with it from here?

Chapter 1 by Temm Temm

Preface: There is a certain way this is written. If a line is 'Thomas: "Hello!"' that is Thomas saying hello. If a line is "Hello!" with no name behind it, that is Thomas' thoughts.

Now on to the actual story:

Thomas Michaels entered a local coffee shop, something he would usually do every morning before work. He approached the counter to see a lovely looking young woman in her early 20s, casually preparing an order. When the girl notices Thomas, she approaches, giving Thomas full view of her body. She was about 5'4", small build, and long brown hair. She also wore a name tag stating "Hi! My name is: Clara". She smiled at Thomas, and pulled out a notepad.

Clara: "Hello sir, what would you like today?"

Thomas: "Can I get a vanilla mocha please?"

Clara: "Of course, would you like anything else?"

Thomas: "No that should be it."

Clara: "Coming right up!"

Clara walks off to the coffee maker and begins preparing Thomas' drink. Thomas goes and sits down at a nearby table, and on the table there was a notebook. Thomas was the only one in the shop besides an older man on the other side. He figured the notebook was left by a previous patron and opened it up to see if it had a return number or anything.

When Thomas opened the book, there was no number or anything in it, but it did have a title, and what the book called "rules". The title of the book was the 'Nomicon of Society' and there were three 'rules'.

  1. Write a grouping of people on a page, from there you can add rules.
  2. You can only change the fabric of society and nothing else.
  3. Old Rules dictate rules that have been in place for decades, while new rules dictate rules that have been in place for months.

"Curious, what is this book?"

Thomas flips the page to see a better explanation of the [rules.

In this book you can write rules, and as long as the rules follow the book rules, they will come true in the world. an example of a rule: America: New Rule: Everyone sings when they order food. This rule being new, means people may be apprehensive to it, or sometimes forget, but it is still a rule that must be followed. Another example: America: Old Rule: People must eat standing up. As this is an old rule, it feels like a normal fabric of society, and won't be questioned.

"There is no way this will work, but I might as well try..."

What should Thomas do next?
