A College Adventure

Doe sat on the bed in her dorm room, studying. She tried to take notes on a piece of paper, but the text she had was so dry and boring that she repeatedly caught herself drawing stars and hearts at the edge of the sheet instead. Finally, she sighed in frustration and threw the pen aside. Today was no good. She had just discovered that she'd gained two pounds, she'd had a fight with her math professor about a problem-solving strategy and she had been called a bitch by some girl she didn't even know. And now all this homework that she couldn't even concentrate on.

Without warning, the door flew open and her roommate, Megan, wandered into the room, smiling at Doe. "Hey," she greeted her, "ya know what? Alex has just asked me out to a party, wanna go with us?"

Doe shook her head. "Nah, I have a test tomorrow, I gotta study. Sorry."

Megan shook her head in obvious disgust. "You don't do anything but study my dear, you haven't gone out in forever. It can't go on like this, you gotta have some fun in life!"

"I'm not like you," Doe mumbled, finally laying the homework aside.

"Of course not," Megan laughed. "So you're gonna go with and have lots of fun, or you'll just study and have dinner and study more and fall asleep?"

Doe bit her lip. "Hmmm, I don't know..." The idea of going out did start to sound nice, but she didn't want to neglect her schoolwork either.
