Brew the potion

You line up all the ingredients for the Felix Felicis potion that you have collected on the bench – fresh Ashwinder eggs, grated horseradish, juice from squill bulbs, chopped Murtlap tentacles, the vial of tincture of thyme, ground Occamy eggshell and powdered rue. You spent a few hours preparing these ingredients, but now you are ready to go. You take a deep breath to steady your nerves and place your cauldron in its stand.

To begin with, you pour in standard potion water into the cauldron. Then, you drop the Ashwinder eggs into the cauldron and scrape the horseradish into it as well. Quickly, you light the fire beneath the cauldron. As the concoction heats up, the Ashwinder egg breaks apart and dissolves in the water. When the water begins to bubble, you extinguish the heat.

Next, you pour in the squill bulb juice and wave your wand. The wooden spoon in the cauldron begins to stir it vigorously. You watch as the squill bulb juice reacts with the horseradish, turning the potion a deep purple colour.

You add the Murtlap tentacles and heat the potion again. After dropping in a small amount of the tincture of thyme, you wave your wand again to stir it slowly. While stirring, you pour in the Occamy eggshells, then heat the cauldron again. Now, the potion brightens, taking on a silvery hue. You douse the flames and add a pinch of the powdered rue, before stirring and heating the concoction once again.

The potion is complete except for one last step. You hold your wand over the cauldron, readying yourself for casting the incantation.

“Felixempra”, you intone, waving your wand.

There’s a brilliant light. When you look back into the cauldron, you see that it now contains a golden liquid. Like when you learnt about Felix Felicis in Potions class, this potion is spitting out golden drops that dance across the surface. You’re mesmerised by the sight. Recovering, you pick up a vial you prepared earlier and carefully pour the Felix Felicis inside.

The recipe you used doesn’t create a lot of the potion; you guess there’s only enough for a handful of uses. Now, you just have to decide how to use the potion.
