Chapter 15 by fantaghiro
What's next?
the breaking point
You woke one morning to find the house quiet — too quiet.
In the kitchen, Sarah was making coffee, but the way she moved was different. Her shoulders were squared, her gaze sharp, eyes flicking over you with the cool, wary expression Renee had always carried around you.
“Morning,” she said without warmth.
You swallowed hard. “Sarah?”
She laughed — a short, bitter sound. “You mean Renee, right?”
Over breakfast, Sarah flipped between voices. One moment soft and familiar; the next, clipped and distant. She complained about your “creepy stepdad” attitude, mocking your concern, accusing you of spying on her phone, invading her privacy.
Your heart cracked with every word. The woman you loved was slipping away — replaced by the teenager who had hated you.
That night, you tried hypnosis one last time, hoping to find Sarah beneath Renee’s surface. You counted her down slowly, guiding her toward the memories you’d shared — the nights you laughed until dawn, the small rituals that were yours alone.
For a moment, her face softened. Then her eyes opened — clear, fierce, Renee’s eyes.
“No,” she said softly. “You’re not my husband. You’re my stepdad.”
Your world shattered in that single sentence.
You realized then that you weren’t fighting for Sarah anymore. You were fighting for a ghost.

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
